The clip shown at the 1986 Emmys showed a clip from the Pilot (The Engagement) episode of the The Golden Girls for Bea Arthur.   The Triangle was good, if she indeed submitted it, but she should have gone with "Guess Who's Coming to the Wedding."   Rue McClanahan should have submitted "Adult Education" that first year.   They could have truly been competitive with Betty White that year.

I agree that Rue McClanahan should have submitted "Adult Education."  Her last scene with her professor provided good impact.  Bea Arthur should have either submitted "Guess Who's Coming To The Wedding" (great scene with Stan towards the end with range and impact) or "That Was No Lady" when she is seeing the married man.  These submissions would have given Betty White a run for her money.

1990-1991 Emmy Episode Submissions

DRAMA LEAD ACTRESS
Dana Delany, China Beach - “Fever”
Sharon Gless, The Trials of Rosie O’Neill - “When I’m 44”
Angela Lansbury, Murder, She Wrote - “Thursday’s Child”
Patricia Wettig, thirtysomething - “Guns and Roses”

I recently saw Angela Lansbury's submission of Thursday's Child and this was a very good and subtle performance.  It is too bad that Angela never won an Emmy for this role.

Isabel Sanford's submission that got her an Emmy.  I like her but I never saw her being an Emmy worthy actress especially compared to the other people in the cast.  I can see why the voters liked it - it's very sentimental about her going back to her childhood building before they destroy it.

I read in several sources that Sharon Gless's first emmy winning submission was "The Gimp" instead of "DWI."

COMEDY LEAD ACTRESS
Bea Arthur, The Golden Girls - "The Triangle"

Shelley Long, Cheers - ?
Rue McClanahan, The Golden Girls – “The Way We Met”
Phylicia Rashad, The Cosby Show – “Cliff In Love”

Betty White, The Golden Girls - "In a Bed of Rose's"

There is a website in which there is a sale of Rue McClanahan's belongings.  One of the items was an Emmy nomination certificate for 1986 for Rue and it had "A Little Romance"  as the episode.  This leads me to believe that was her episode submission and not "THe Way We Met."  Also, there is currently another Emmy nomination certificate for 1988 for Rue and it had "Strange Bedfellows" as her submission.
