Michael Maguire who played Enjolras won Tony Award as a featured actor. This time around it will be played by Aaron Tveit. So will he be in contention at all?

Eponine was also a Tony-winning role which will be played Samantha Barks. So it seems Taylof Swift missed an opportunity to be nominated at Oscar.Estonished

Yeah and I think she was training for it in London and everything, but then they casted Samantha Barks.

I hope I'm wrong, but I have a bad feeling about this film. It might be because I found the novel a depressing slog. On the other hand the recycled score may be quite good, and the costumes.
I'm not a fan of the screenwriter either.

Harumph. Usually I'm full of optimism about most films, but this one rankles. I'm probably way off base. Looks to me that the cast is very used to wearing period costumes. Maybe that will help.....

I share the feelings, and add an even bigger one - the director was chosen because he was the flavor of the month, not because there is any indication he has a clue about how to make a musical film.

Why don't you at least wait for the trailer to be released before you draw the knives?

I don't think either Babypook or I was doing any such thing.

And this is rich coming from you as the poster who makes judgments on movies he hasn't seen more than everyone else here combined.

I myself am just grateful no pop tarts (Taylor Swift, Jonas Brother) were cast. Not a fan of Anne Hathaway either, but somebody thinks she's the "cat's meow," whereas I see "egregiously miscast."

If Hathaway do a pretty good job as Catwoman and then killed in ''I Dreamed A Dream'', I can see her winning the next supporting actress Oscar.

I can see that happening as well. But I think they are finally going to give it too Amy Adams.

Why? Are Hathaway and Adams "overdue"? If so, I must have missed all the public clamor. Anyway, don't they have to "earn" the award first? I never understood how people can say so-and-so is going to win based on the name of the movie alone!

Funniest post of the year - you consistently make up your mind about movies before seeing them, before they even go into production.
And yet you denounce people who conform to the major point of this site - discussing and predicting awards?
Wow, just wow.

Maybe you can explain how anyone can "predict" an actor will win an award while knowing absolutely NOTHING about the performance?!

How many people said Leonardo DiCaprio would be nominated for J. EDGAR last year, long before the movie was released?

As I've already said, if Hathaway kills both Catwoman and Fantine, two iconic characters, she'll be hard to beat.

Also, this will probably be the film to score double Supporting Actress nods. I'm looking out for Samantha Barks as Eponine.

This has high bomb potential though. I'm not at all confident with the director.

I don't see Hathaway nominated for Catwoman...I'm not sure where that buzz is coming from.

You said it. Hathaway is NO Meryl Streep, who can survive bad direction and still garner Oscar noms. I personally can't see her pulling a Heath Ledger and winning for a "Batman" movie. Anyway, Ledger's win was a makeup for not winning for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, for which he truly deserved an Oscar even more.

No one is even saying she'll be nominated for Catwoman. Her Oscar vehicle is obviously Fantine. If she nails Catwoman, it would definitely boost her chances and could help put her over the top for the win.
