Ledger indeed deserved to win for BM, but his Oscar for DK was awarded on merit, and not remotely a make-up one.

Did I miss something? Did Anne Hathaway have a wondrous career singing on Broadway that we never knew anything about? Is she a top-selling vocalist, the "Barbra Streisand" of the 2010s? Yet somehow she is going to knock the socks off critics and audiences with a musical performance? BTW, Hugh Jackman has won a Tony for his work on Broadway. Still, it's going to be Anne Hathaway that eclipses him? |

I don't think anyone said Hathaway would be more Oscar worthy than Jackman. If this film delivers, this could be Jackman's first legitimate Oscar bid. As for Ledger, there's no way 'The Dark Knight' was a make-up Oscar. He was FANTASTIC in 'Brokeback Mountain', my personal choice for Best Actor that year, but even if he had won for 'BM' he was still going to win for 'The Dark Knight'. |

Hudson won an Oscar because of one song in a ok movie being a newbie, so why Hathaway could not do this with 'I Dreamed A Dream' ? and the catwoman talk is for help her with the image, to boost her and just for this, she won't be nominated for catwoman, imo. |

Has any of you seen any version of les Miz?? The Fantine part is quite small and not even a Tony nominated role...why all the Anne Hathaway fuss? I dont believe for a sec that she will even be considered for an oscar.. probably none of the actors will.... |

^Please, even a bomb of epic proportions like "Nine" scored Penelope a waste of a nod. The academy always has a soft spot for musicals. Yes, Fantine is not that big of a part compared to Javert, Valjean etc. she disappears after the first act but if done right, what huge impact it can have. It's not like she's being discussed for Best Actress. Sheesh. Plus, Hathaway deglam=Oscah! |

^Is this film backed by Weinstein like Nine was? Cause I think that explains that films nominations. I don't think musicals always generate acting nods. |

Here is a photo of Amanda Seyfried who is playing Cosette Daughter of Fantine (Hathaway) who gives her to Jean Valjan (Jackman) when she dies, amanda obviously plays the older version many years after fantine has faded away. |

Why don't you listen to her sing something before you rush to the conclusion that she can't hold her own with Hackman..? The only reason I think this could be an Oscar contender is because of Tom Hooper. I'm not the biggest fan personally, but clearly the Academy sees something I don't. It would be foolish to underestimate him. |

It wouldn't surprise me to see Russell Crowe make an awards comeback here as Javert. Provided he can handle the score (I've only heard him do a rock song with his band), the role is of the type that the Academy could eat up. Plus it has two HUGE showy solos. He and Jackman could potentially both get awards attention. I read somewhere (can't remember how reliable the source was) that they are recording the singing in the live takes and not lip-syncing. If it's true, that's brave but it scares me a little. But I guess anything that doesn't work can be dubbed or fixed in post. On the other hand, why don't you listen to her sing before you rush to the conclusion that she can hold her own with "Hackman." PS: Who is "Hackman"? |

^Gene Hackman? Can he sing? Edit: Hmmmm... Still inconclusive, but perhaps Hackman could've used this as an audition tape for the role of Fantine? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYLk34GCXbo&feature=fvst |
