I hope Wallis makes it into Best Actress! Its been a relatively weak year, and no one has done anything remotely better than her. Sides its been a while since any youngsters have been up for Best Actress. |

I think she's going to be considered too young, and though it is no less true than when the actor is Meryl Streep or anyone else, too many actors are going to credit the director with creating her performance because she is so young. She is a marvelous presence, but not sure actors will consider it acting as they understand it. I'd have no problem with her being nominated. Just don't think 19% of the actors will end up making her #1 (after the complicated formula takes hold). And honestly her difficult name doesn't help either (they need to write it out).

Yes I know. I was speaking generally about the 'trashing' bit as well. And you could be right. Plus, I really liked "Where Do We Go Now?". I hope there's room for both Beasts, and this, providing they're both deemed eligible. The Sunne in Splendour; I prefer my Roses White |

Where Do We Go Now is eligible, since though a FL submission for 2011, since it wasn't nominated, but then released this year, it qualifies in the regular categories. However, the film surprisingly bombed, and won't have a dime spent on it for any categories, since it has zero chance of any nominations. Despite being the shocking Peoples' Choice winner at last year's Toronto, it got mediocre reviews and very little audience interest in the US.

Beasts has one passionate supporter in the Academy - Oprah Winfrey. Just saw a clip of an interview with her in which she called in phenomenal. (She also said she first heard of the film from President Obama, also a fan - not sure what rock she was hiding under). Anyway, this is exactly what the film needs - someone, particularly a person who can get attention, to beat the drums for it. I feel comfortable revising my guess of its chances of a BP nomination considerably upward.

Unless a really respected actress comes along an really knocks it outta the park i dunno how anyone will top the Wallis narrative it is so captivating. Oprah is just the first of probably many that will be championing for her. Academy members are going to eat it up. Plus even the critics who aren't praising the film to the high heavens have said shes amazing. She is the closest thing to a lock for a nomination right now, an Fox Searchlight knows how to play the oscar just as good as the Weinsteins so getting the win as unbelievable as that sounds is within reach. How crazy would it be if the second black actress to win lead actress in what 85 years is not a veteran like Viola Davis or Angela Bassett, but an 8 year old newcomer.

I can think of no member of the Academy with potentially as much sway as Winfrey. She can make a huge difference.

Perhaps in selling bored housewives on the latest fad diet. Anyway, she no longer has that public soapbox. And aren't Academy members supposed to refrain from politicking for/against potential nominees??? |

I do not even want to mention it as a possibility that they enter her as supporting because she is in every frame of the movie and it would make me so mad! |

They made a few more 'rules' after the Nicolas Chartier fiasco didnt they? Anyways, you've got to be kidding. It's ALL about politics. It's completely unenforceable. The Sunne in Splendour; I prefer my Roses White |

Oprah must be able to sway some votes. Having the ladies from the The Help on her show im sure helped Octavia win last year. Ms. Wallis has a huge public figure in her corner championing for her, it can only help as she tries to break Keisha Castle-Hughes' record.

Oprah did help with Precious and Gabourey. Based on the films I have seen this year, she and Jennifer Lawrence have really been the only ones to give Oscar worthy performances. |

Pucifer Oprah has her own network for pete's sake. And she is allowed to tell people how much she loves a movie, both publicly and privately. She is an established tastemaker (how soon you forget her book club). She is obviously widely respected in the industry - despite not being a film mainstay, she got an honorary Oscar last year. And her multiple activities apart from film at some level mean a lot of members give her opinion even more credence. Assuming she keeps actively supporting it, I repeat, she, as much or more than any other Academy member, can deliver a BP nomination. Her love for the film also shows a level of passion for it already out there. Again, hearing this makes me go from questioning whether Beasts could be a nominee to making me think it will be. It's that big a deal.
