Stunned that no one had posted on this yet, but SOD is reporting that Peter Reckell is set to leave the show due to contract talks reaching an impasse. I guess he's one of those exits Greg Meng hinted at when the first phase of the blood bath was announce. It just seems a cause for concern that so many things has happened since this much to do about rebot has not done any impact where it counts for TPTB (damn ratings!). I think DAYS got LUCKY when they did this last time and had that spike w/the baby switch. Could lightning strike twice? As for Reckell, this is definitly a loss b/c he is so underatted and if given the storyline, he can shine. And he's part of a supercouple too! What does that means for Kristian? Good lord let me stop lol. Discuss. |

From what I have read, he refused to take a pay cut. Without knowing the details of anything obviously, I kind of think he should take the pay cut. Being part of a supercouple (or arguably three in his case given the popularity of Bo/Carly and Bo/Billie) has the side benefit of job security, so to ask for that and a hefty salary is a little much right now lol. IDK. |

It seems like a complicated issue. I first read about it on Daytime Confidential, which basically pointed the finger at DAYS for asking him to take a pay cut after he just, reportedly, took a 40ish% paycut a few years ago. I can understand how that might seem like an awful thing for the show to do, but it's not like the shows are dealing with the same budgets they were even a couple of years ago. And who knows how much he's making? And who even knows what, in this case, constitutes a pay cut (per episode rate vs. episode guarantee)? Besides that, these stories are always more interesting to the public when framed in these David and Goliath kind of terms of shows stiffing actors, but maybe Peter's not that motivated to make a deal anyway. Maybe seeing Renee Jones decide to just retire and enjoy her life made him kind of want to do the same. There's just so much that could be happening. I'll just say that I hope things get worked out. Bo, as an individual, isn't really in my top tier of favorite characters a lot of the time, but I love Hope and I love Bo and Hope together. And yes, I think Peter is a great actor, very underrated, always very present in his scenes. That's one of my favorite things about Bo and Hope. I think they work well even in mundane stories because they've got great chemistry and both of them are always putting something into it. RE-HIRE CHRISTIE CLARK! |

Kristian Alfonso re-signed so that might influence this situation. |

If he leaves they can always keep another big name actor. Plus it can't be that cheap having both Diedra and Drake back full-time. With that said I fully expect to see Sarah Brown leaving soon. Yup, Sarah Brown is confirmed as on her way out. I'm surprised that they're keeping Brady (Eric Martsolf) around, too. I think the character's kind of all played out at this point, much like Chloe, which is why I hope they don't bring her back. Hopefully Reckell can work out a deal with the show, but if not, they'll go on without him. Maybe now they want his salary to pay Eileen Davidson. We could speculate all day. Well, Peter Reckell's exit seems to be really happening, as his wife Kelly Moneymaker is now tweeting things like how hard it is to say goodbye to a character after so many years and hoping that Bope fans will follow whatever he does next. See Daytime Confidential's post about it, which includes the definite implication that he was asked to take another paycut and decided not to, here: http://daytimeconfidential.zap2it.com/2012/06/13/peter-reckells-wife-confirms-days-of-our-lives-exit?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter I wonder what this will mean for Hope? She's never really been on the show without Bo, but I think she's the much better character of the two, and there are some interesting possibilities. They don't seem to believe in recasting anymore; otherwise, I'd suggest checking out what Robert Kelker-Kelly is up to and seeing if maybe it's time to reignite that Bo/Billie fire from almost 20 years ago. I kind of wish Matthew Ashford could stay on-contract now that this big salary is freed up.

I'm not going to complain Ashford being on, but I definitely still don't feel like I need him there. I can't get past feeling like Jennifer is a much more enjoyable character when she's not with Jack. I will say that Ashford's been great during this stint, and to my surprise, Jack and Jennifer have yet to annoy me as a couple this time around. Losing Reckell is unfortunate, but I think that since it is happening, there are some good ways to put that salary to use (Eileen Davidson/Christie Clark). RE-HIRE CHRISTIE CLARK! |
