I was just filling my predictions for the Tonys in June and I realized that I have two shows with 5+ nominations to be completely shut-out, even in techs. Is this common for shows thrown a bunch of nominations? |

The Scottsboro Boys was shut-out even with double-digit nomination numbers. Sister Act had 8, I think, and was shut-out.

Steel Pier also had a ton of nominations several years ago and was shut out. (Was it 11? I'm too lazy to go count.) Edit: Checked it out and Steel Pier did have 11 Tony noms without a win, tying The Scottsboro Boys and Chicago for most noms without a win--and all are by Kander and Ebb. Scottsboro was in the year of Book of Mormon and Chicago was in the year of A Chorus Line. Steel Pier was in the year of Titanic, so that's no excuse--its problem was that it was passable at best. Thanks! Am not going to go back and 'spread the wealth' so-to-speak. |
