Continues with bieber interview promoting movie Never Say Never and Bieber visiting a fan- she can't speak. There's an obstacle course where Ellen and Justin play different games. james blunt performance. usher surprise with the whole audience going to Never Say Never Premiere. Live with Regis and Kelly

last Regis episode. Begins with walk out with kelly. Skit of actors impersonating Regis like Dana Carvey, Ben Affleck, Amy Poehler " talk like regis" Regis gets key to city from Mayor Bloomberg . Wife Joy tells long talked about but never told Honeymoon story about regis not having reservations regis says he had reservations but couldn't get there in time to make them? Emotional Kelly reads a letter to Regis about her cohosting with him. Rent cast "almost a million minutes" based on the Rent song Seasons of Love. Disney President Iger tells Regis about the plaque on the studio saluting Regis. Ends with Regis statement about career about the show was what he was meant to do. Regis is a TV legend and Kelly is very emotional and almost starts the episode crying.

The Talk

Special Halloween episode Everyone dressed as Wizard of Oz characters Julie Chen- Tin Man, Aisha Tyler- Scarecrow, Sharon Osbornoe - Glinda, Sheryl Underwood- cowardly lion, Sara Gilbert as Dorothy. Guests are dressed up as well. paula deen surprises arriving from wire as flying monkey makes mokey bread. Cloris leachman as the wicked witch talks about her book. Zoo guy brings black leopard, snakes, and other animals. Ends with Ozzie Osbourne as Wizard in a cameo. For a surprise nominee I was expected something more interesting than Wizard of Oz costumes. It worked to get a nomination but I'm not sure about win! It's pretty thin.

The View

November 23, 2011 38:11

The Hot topics section is short and about Dancing with the Stars. Justin Bieber christmas song with Mary J. Blige, Dancing with the stars results with winner J.R. Martinez, a disfigured Iraq war veteran, All My Children actor, motivational speaker. It also inlcudes 2nd place Rob Kardashian and 3rd place Ricki Lake talking about her upcoming show. There is so much Dancing With the Stars it is almost acting as more promotion than anything else.

Ranking submission

1 - Live with Regis and Kelly

2-Ellen Degeneres

3-View

4-Talk

Live with Regis and Kelly has a strong episode with Regis' last show. It's the best submission. The voters like Ellen the most though. Rachael Ray beat her twice but she wasn't nominated. Ellen is really funny with the Lady Gaga song she tries to sing, introducing Bieber, reading a letter from a fan of his that he surprised. The fan is totally speechless and barely can talk. The View also has Bieber talking about his paternity scandal and singing with Mary J. Blige. J.R. Martinez is interesting but the time devoted is short and near the end. The Talk was a surprisee nominee and it has to be for the well done Wizard of Oz Theme. The Zoo guy was just in his zoo "uniform". It was clever for Julie Chen to be the tin man. She jokes about it.

Maybe voters will just go with Ellen again but the last Regis episode was good. Maybe a downside could be that it was not representative of the show? The Ellen show is all about Justin Bieber and maybe he will annoy some voters. Then he's on The View but that episode just seems like an everyday episode with JR Martinez being the most interesting. The Talk just seems weak. Voters may not know the people and they're all in makeup.

Voters tend to like Ellen DeGeneres no matter what she submits, but she has lost twice to "Rachael Ray" proving that -- unlike, say, "The Daily Show" -- she is vulnerable to an especially good submission, and "Regis and Kelly" seems clearly to have the best one. Ellen could take it again, but I'm going to put my money on "Regis and Kelly."

The Ellen DeGeneres Show - "Episode #8097" - February 9, 2011
Opening Segment: Ellen plays her version of "Born This Way" on the piano. Lady Gaga had only released the lyrics to the song up to this point, so Ellen sang the song the way she thought it would sound. She also wore a headpiece made out of a baby mobile. James Blunt then appeared and played his version, which was to the tune of "You're Beautiful". Justin Bieber then made a cameo and did his version.

2nd Segment: Ellen introduced a clip package montage of audience members singing and dancing to Taio Cruz's "Dynamite". Then Ellen talks about Clay Matthews being on tomorrow's show and Justin Bieber being on today's show. Ellen then introduced a fake commercial for AT&T's "uFon". Then Ellen did a segment "Ye Old Wedding Watch". Ellen reads a letter saying that she is a very, very distant relative of Kate Middleton. Ellen then dances as it goes to commercial.

3rd Segment: Justin Bieber interview. Ellen shows a montage of Justin's previous appearances on the show, then conducts the interview.

4th Segment: Video of Justin Bieber surprising a fan at her home. The fan joins Justin during the interview.

5th Segment: Justin & Ellen compete in an obstacle course challenge.

6th Segment: James Blunt performs "Stay the Night"

7th Segment: Ellen gives Justin Bieber a golf cart for his upcoming birthday, which is driven onto the set by surprise guest Usher. He then invites the entire audience to the premiere of Justin's movie.

REVIEW: I'm a fan of Ellen but this wasn't one of my favorite episodes. The opening segment with their versions of "Born This Way" was funny but became a little grating after a while. And her interview with Justin wasn't all that interesting. The games are always fun to watch, which was my favorite part of the episode. It was an okay episode, but you probably have to be a huge fan of Justin Bieber to appreciate it.

Live with Regis and Kelly - "Episode #111118" - November 18, 2011
I won't go into detail too much with this one. It was Regis' final episode.

REVIEW: Really well done episode, saying goodbye to one of the television greats. It was incredibly smart for them to submit this episode. It has a lot of heart and entertainment. Maybe this will finally get them an Emmy win in this category.

The Talk - "Episode #02-036-234" - October 31, 2011
The Halloween episode.

1st Segment: Pre-taped segment of Sara Gilbert as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. The ladies then walk out onto the set. Julie is dressed as the Tin Man (how appropriate!), Aisha is the Scarecrow, Sharon is Glenda the good witch, Sara is Dorothy, & Sheryl is dresed as the Cowardly Lion. The ladies then discuss Doug Hutchinson and his 17 year-old bride getting kicked out of a pumpkin patch for acting inappropriate. It's really weird to see them try to discuss something seriously while wearing those ridiculous costumes. Next topics: cut-off age for kids trick-or-treating and a school banning Halloween.

2nd Segment: Surprise guest comes ziplining in as one of the flying monkeys, it's Paula Deen. The ladies interview Paula.

3rd Segment: Paula does a cooking segment with Sharon & Julie, where Paula teaches them how to make monkey bread.

4th Segment: Cloris Leachman is the next surprise guest, coming out as the Wicked Witch. This was pretty great. The ladies kept trying to stay on track with the interview trying to ask "serious" pre-interview questions, but Cloris was staying in character and diverting away from the topics. Cloris is always entertaining.

5th Segment: Interview with animal expert Tom Stalf.

6th Segment: More with the animal expert.

7th Segment: The ladies say goodbye. "There's no place like The Talk", says Sara Gilbert.

REVIEW: Halloween episodes are fun to watch...near Halloween time. Watching it away from that season and it's not nearly as fun. As I mentioned in the recap, it was a little weird for them to discuss topics and try to be taken seriously dressed in their costumes. The Paula cooking segment was boring. But Cloris Leachman made the episode come alive. She increased the entertainment greatly.  Then they did two very tedious segments with the animal expert, which is NEVER interesting television. It was an average episode.

The View - "Episode #3266" - November 23, 2011

1st Segment: Hot Topics. The ladies discuss the hoopla surrounding Justin Bieber's visit, Elisabeth wishes her Grandmother-in-Law a Happy 84th Birthday, and discussion of the finale of Dancing with the Stars.

2nd Segment: Justin Bieber interview.

3rd Segment: Justin Bieber performs "Under the Mistletoe". Mary J. Blige joins in the middle of the song.

4th Segment: Ricki Lake & Derek Hough perform a routine from DWTS. Elisabeth & Sherri interview them. Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke also perform a number.

5th Segment: J.R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff perform a number from DWTS. They are interviewed by all of the ladies where they ask him about winning the show.

6th Segment: They close the show. The ladies and all of the DWTS stars and pros dance together to "Jump Jive Wail" as it fades to black.

REVIEW: Another show submits a Justin Bieber episode. WTF? That's really random. I don't know why the producers of those two shows thought Justin would appeal to the Emmy voters. One of the things that this show does well is the Hot Topics, and they submit an episode where they only do one segment. The interviews are nice and breezy. It's a typical episode of the show. They could've picked better.

RANKINGS:
1. Live with Regis and Kelly
2. The View
3. The Ellen DeGeneres Show
4. The Talk

OVERALL: Live with Regis and Kelly should easily win this category (and it would be the first win for the show), but if the Emmy voters are lazy they will go with another victory for The Ellen DeGeneres Show. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
