And the early reviews are in. Metacritic has it at 80 (with 4 reviews) and RT has it at 100% (12 reviews, 8.1/10 average rating). At the least, it looks to be better than Quantum of Solace. And some reviews indicate that Skyfall may be one of the best, if not THE best, entries in the Bond franchise. November 9 can't come soon enough.

This is going to be the top theatrical film experience of the year. There isn't a movie im looking the most forward to see (well, maybe SLP or Les Mis), but besides those 2... Skyfall FTW!

I can't wait. I'm a huge fan of 'Casino Royale', but I was greatly disappointed by 'Quantum of Solace'... Looks like 'Skyfall' is going to be a major course correction for the franchise. |

Does anyone else think that Javier Bardem can score a Best Supporting Actor nod? He's getting rave reviews with several critics declaring him the most memorable villain in Bond history and his character has been compared, on more than one occasion, to Heath Ledger's Joker. It doesn't hurt that he has a history with the Oscars as well.

I saw Skyfall at the Odeon in Leicester Square - first showing. I don't like James Bond movies and am not a big fan of action movies anyway. But Skyfall is fantastic: the action's as good as (or maybe even better than) the first two Bourne movies, the comic lines are really funny, the cinematography is stunning, the acting great (stand-outs: Javier Bardem and Judi Dench - though Daniel Craig is superb, Bénénice somebody-or-other is - surprisingly - affecting as the Bond Girl and Naomie Harris is great as Bond's sidekick-ass). What sets Skyfall apart from previous Bond outings (pun intended there for a scene between Craig and Bardem), is that the movie sets itself up as almost an elegy to previous Bond films. There are very funny referential bits - but there is also a kind gloomy, Scottish mist hanging over much of the film - especially the last bit. Bond's backstory and his relationship with M are filled out - satisfyingly. I (safely) predict Skyfall will be the highest grossing film of the year - but I also predict it will get a few Oscar noms - Supporting for Bardem should be a lock, as should cinematography for Deakins, maybe Supporting for Judi Dench - maybe even a nom for screenplay. |

This is maybe the best Bond film ever. Man, what a jaw-dropping experience that was. Such beautifully crafted action scenes, one of the most (if not THE most) emotional and personal Bond storylines, a fantastic cast giving some of their best performances (in a fair world, the trio of Craig-Bardem-Dench would be locks for Oscar nominations), the end of the hyperrealism varnish of the two previous Craig films in favor of embracing once again the spectacle and awe of the bigger classics in the series, tons of reference and (re)introduction of famous characters, brilliant cinematography by Roger Deakins (that also in a fair world would be a lock to win the Oscar), and the best opening credits sequence in ages with the gorgeous Adele theme. Everything about this is film encapsulates what James Bond was, what he is right now, and what's he gonna become. It's a film as big as the icon, and makes the most of it's world and all the possibilites it allows. Just my favorite film experience of the year so far, but I can't imagine any Oscar-bait even coming close. |

I saw it on last friday... My biggest problem is the horrible doubing... It almost killed the film for me. Unfortunately in spain most films are in spanish... so hearing someone dubbing Bardem is horrible... and the one who dubbed Severine... also horrible... i wish i could watch in original version... Even tough... I must confess i do love the movie... I think it will be nominated for Cinematography (but it will lost agaisnt Les Miz) Roger is a perenial loser like Emmanuel Lubezki... BUT I LOVE IT... with a lot of beautiful scenes... Maybe Sound Mixing / Editing... the Metro crash was excellent... hopefully Song (if they dont ruled out Adele) Film Editing, and if the British block do something even Movie... and music Thomas Newton is excellent. I loved "M" Judi Dench, and she will be very deserving in a nomination... Bardem... well... I need to see him in original version... but he has so many tics like in No Country for Old Men... and i like Daniel Craig... but please no more sex scenes for him.. he is terrible on them... I do like all the cast, emmy winners Finney and Whishaw were excellents... so Fiennes... Quantance of Solace and Die another day are the worst movies from the series... and Casino Royale and Skyfall two of the best... i guess next one will be horrible... By the way my favourite Bond movie is "Never Say Never Again"... then in no particuliar order "Casino Royale", "Skyfall", "A view to kill" "Live and Let Die" and "From Rusia with love" The one i hated appart of those two i said before "Moonraker", "The spy who loved me" and "Thunderball" JOSE |

Whoa. Saw Skyfall last Saturday and, boy, was I jerking in my seat. Absolutely one of the best Bond films in a while. Possible contender in Cinematography for Roger Deakins and Sound Editing. Another Oscar hopeful is Javier Bardem. He first appeared midway to the film and he really made himself get noticed. He was quirky yet manipulative and vile throughout his scenes. Such a scene stealer -- one of the more memorable Bond villains. Overall, the film was entertainingly satisfying; it's complete with outstanding directing by Sam Mendes, powerful sounds and great performances. Skyfall must be the finest of 007 in the 21st century yet. |
