Here are the top-selling albums released between October 1, 2011 and September 30, 2012 (the eligibility period of releases for the 55th Grammy Awards).
Included in the list is its rank, album cover artwork, artist, album title, release date, Billboard 200 peak position, sales to date (in thousands), Metacritic score, categories and genre(s) the album is likely to be submitted in based on previous nominations, the artist's history of Grammy nominations and wins overall, as well as their nominations and wins in the general field (Album/Record/Song of the Year and Best New Artist). I have also included a list of which singles from the album have charted on the Billboard Hot 100.

The funny thing is the highest-selling album of that time frame is actually 21. I think this year will be one where the top-selling album of the year is the same as the last year. In fact, Adele's sophmore album sold more copies in ONE WEEK than did any album outside of the top 5 of that list above. The death of music is slowly approaching us. Adele seems to be the only thing that can keep it alive.
The best album of the year so far. "Past Gone" is the best song of the year as well. Check out Mike Stud's debut album on iTunes.
I didn't realize that "Ceremonials" was ranked so high! People on here have referred to it as a flop. It's not a big as "Lungs," but it has done very well worldwide. Decent sales + critical acclaim + Florence's rising star status could equal an AOTY nod. This makes me want to edit my predictions.

^I'm actually a little surprised by Florence + The Machine's album sales too. Some people make it seem like they didn't even go gold. Yeah, it's not GREAT, but it's not bad. And good for Coldplay! It's not up to their usual sales, but still pretty darn good considering the state of the industry.
It's sad the top selling albums of 2012 were either released in early '11 and has already won (Adele, 3.2M+ just in 2012) and is a Christmas album (Michael Buble).
This looks like Drake's chance at garnering a nomination in AOTY.
Also, I do believe someone called Florence's album a flop, but 614,000 copies is not a big difference from the 1 million they sold with Lungs. It might have a chance at a nomination.
I'm interested to see how they take to Lionel's album. Will they honor an album of country remakes of his old hits?

I have updated the list. Album cover art and Hot 100 information has now been extended to the Top 25.
Note: Gotye has now passed the 0.5 million mark.
Look out for Justin Bieber to make a strong debut with Believe, which Billboard reports experts are predicting opening week sales between 400,000 and 500,000.
