Hot episode. And Alfre Woodard's coming back! Didn't know that was in the works.

That was Alfre Woodard screaming in her bed? I thought it was Tara's mother, but I wasn't paying close attention. Didn't Alfre's character die? I really enjoyed the scenes between Erik and Pam, and even Bill and Jessica. Exploring the bond between maker and progeny is interesting, with a lot of potential. The bit with Sam and the shifters echoes the book to a degree; I wonder if the Terry subplot will tie into this somehow? We obviously got a clue or two during the Iraq flashback with the fireworks reflecting in their eyes like that. "I knew I shoulda taken that left turn at Albuquerque." |

Yeah, that was Ruby saying "Lafayette!!!!" So Alfre Woodard, not Adina Porter (who's on "The Newsroom" now in what looks like a thankless and less fun role). I was wondering what's happened to her now that Jesus is dead.

Something's been bugging me, but I never think to ask: Jason and Sookie are brother and sister. Sookie is a telepathic fairy with weird glowy light-blasters for hands. How come Jason isn't also? Are they not biologically related? It seems strange that since Sookie has learned of her magical ancestry, no one has ever brought up how it applies to Jason, or why it doesn't. |

In the books it's explained that Sookie inherited most of the fairy/fae gifts, while Jason mainly inherited enhanced sexual appeal. Who knows how that will apply in the TV show, however; in the books, Sookie doesn't have magic hands. "I knew I shoulda taken that left turn at Albuquerque." |

Thanks for the clarification! Does anyone else find it strange they never bring it up? They're full siblings, and yet he doesn't have any of the abilities she has, he doesn't smell especially intoxicating to vampires. Even the other fairies in this week's episode didn't recognize him as part of their bloodline. How does it work, that one sibling is what she is and the other just ... isn't. Jason is the older sibling, isn't he? He should have gotten first dibs on the magical prowess from their parents. That would be like in "Star Wars," if Luke told Leia, "Sorry, I'm all powerful, but mom was fresh out of Jedi when you came out." And it's not like Sookie didn't get enhanced sexual appeal herself. She attracts men like a bug zapper. There are so many story avenues it could open up if they would explore this. From what I understand, they've deviated from the books before. And now that Tara is a vampire, I feel bad for Jason, who is now the Xander among the "True Blood" Scoobies: the only central character without superpowers. |

Oh, who knows why they never bring it up on the show? They have so many bloody characters and plotlines they probably just forgot. If I remember correctly from the books, Sookie's telepathy is a rare gift which means she's special, essentially, whereas Jason just has the sex appeal. That's why the vamps all want to drain her and not Jason because he doesn't have enough fae magic or whatever for them to notice. Also, in the books, the were-panthers, whom we saw last season in a storyline that went nowhere, actually succeeded in turning Jason into another were-panther, although it wasn't a bunch of inbred meth addicts doing it. They've certainly piled on a lot this season on her. The vamps are going to want to drain her for her fairy blood, they also want her to track down Russell Edgington, Lafayette is still possessed, etc. "I knew I shoulda taken that left turn at Albuquerque." |

Pam showing her maternal side to Tara was surprisingly sweet, and her goodbye scene with Eric was as touching as those two characters have ever been toward each other. Hopefully Pam will still be in Eric's orbit somehow, b/c "True Blood" without my Pam, no sale. I thought we were done with the fairies from last season, but it looks like we're not. I thought that guy Jessica chased after last episode was one, but I was hoping that was the last of everyone trying to drain Sookie of her blood. I'd forgotten about Sookie and Jason's cousin (I think the last time we saw her she was still Sophie-Anne's servant/lover), so that was a nice callback. Tara calming down some was welcome, and I liked the scene with Lafayette remorseful over turning into that crazed demon and possessing Sookie's car. I wonder who killed Sam's friends at close range like that. "Barack and Hillary over there are waiting to see you, Sam." LoL Arlene. I guess Sam has to have a storyline this season, but it's sad to see his kind knocked off one by one. Roman was badass tonight, and that staking scene! Wooo! Loved that. Christopher Meloni ain't messing around. I wish they'd stop teasing the audience with talk of Russell Edgington and not deliver. Maybe that'll make Denis O'Hare's return that much more anticipated, but it's time for Russell already! Alcide's oddly becoming one of my favorite characters. That scene with the Pelts was very good, and a Sookie/Alcide pairing could be interesting. Not sure how that will work out in the meantime with what looks like Bill and Eric forcing Sookie to help them find Russell. Terry's Iraq flashbacks and crazy war bunker buddy? Not interested in any of that. Jason might seem to be in another show at times, but Ryan Kwanten's done some excellent work so far this season, bringing more shadings and dimension to dim Jason than I'd guess the books ever gave him. "Jason, I'm turning myself in!" "Into what?" LoL! I howled over that exchange. Looking forward to what's ahead, and especially Alfre Woodard's return. Grade for "We'll Meet Again": A-

Just out of curiosity, I wanted to ask the fans of TB if you were to rank the first four seasons from best to worst how would you rank them?

First season was the best before the show became overstuffed and bogged down with too many characters and plots. I would put the second season a close second because Michelle Forbes was such a memorable villain and there was a lot of sexy weirdness going on, but it ended in an abrupt and unsatisfying way, in my view. Both seasons found the right balance and tone, for the most part. I'd rate seasons three (with Denis O'Hare as the Big Bad) and four (Fiona Shaw as the Big Bad) in that order. "I knew I shoulda taken that left turn at Albuquerque." |
