Outstanding Drama Series- Writing Team All My Children Since I was raised on All My Children watching the last episode again was a little hard for me. Wonderful speeches and classic lines are on full display as this beautifully crafted hour offers a close, and a cliff-hanger, to nearly 42 years of television. With that said, the episode is built on a cliched plot point and we've all heard "frankly my dear, I dont give a damn, way too many times on Daytime Drama. Days Of Our Lives This was their writing submission? This episode could've been written in 1992 as a snow storm holds Salem under its grip. Two lust filled couples get trapped together, and you guessed it, give in to their pent-up passion. A long lost mother is discovered and the other trapped couple must deal with PTSD. YAWN!!!!! General Hopital I'll have to stop myself from praising Luke's intervention because this submission laps the field without breaking a sweat. All of Luke's loved ones trap him in a warehouse and plead with him to admit he is an alcoholic. Nuance, character developement, and true, raw emotion dominate this tape. The old adage "if it ain't the page, it ain't on the stage" was never more true. The Young and the Restless The kick-off to the Who Killed Diane Murder Mystery was an eerie submission full of mood and atmosphere. All the suspects are identified as flash backs tell the story of the night Diane was murdered. The main draw back here was this was all set up. There was no character development, no rise in action, or climax to a major moment. Set up should never win a daytime drama writing award. Prediction 1. General Hospital 2. All My Children 3. The Young and the Restless 4. Days Of Our Live General Hospital should win this but giving Agnes Nixon one more writing Emmy has to be on the minds of some voters. |

Thanks, Fish! GH's submission seemed like a foregone conclusion from the day it aired, but I wasn't sure about the others. I'm surprised by how much mileage Y&R got out of the "Who Killed Diane?" mystery. Also, I had forgotten about Jack and Jennifer with the PTSD stuff during the snowstorm. I remember thinking when it aired that those scenes probably hadn't turned out the way they intended, so I'm surprised they submitted that.
