ya i agree. this is a great album but not outstanding. some of the songs are klunkers like "Sierra Leone", "Pilot Jones" and "Monks". Those tracks are too messy. |

As If Anybody Needed Another Reason To Hate Chris Brown... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris Brown Hurls Homophobic Insult at Frank Ocean By Jeremy Kinser Originally published on Advocate.com July 27 2012 8:38 PM ET When asked by paparazzi for his opinion of fellow hip-hop artist Frank Ocean, Chris Brown replied "Man, no homo," according to a report. Earlier this month Ocean, whose critically acclaimed new album Channel Orange is also an unqualified hit, revealed that his first love was a man and since stated that being closeted was like having a "boulder on my chest." But apparently Brown isn't sympathetic. According to PRLog, "While leaving Gotha nightclub in Cannes, Chris Brown had some choice words for a paparazzi who asked him about R&B Crooner Frank Ocean. While entering his vehicle Chris was asked about Frank Ocean, to which Brown responded “Man, no homo!” Last summer Brown denied making homophobic comments at a Las Vegas nightclub. The new report also reveals that Brown and Ocean have had run-ins in the past. The two men previously exchanged heated Twitter messages and Logo blog NewNowNext posted video of Brown sending relatives to chase Ocean's car in June 2011. |

Chris Brown has to keep this up for his career to keep going. It's certainly not going to be his huge sales numbers or quality music. |

So, I finally bought this album/masterpiece a couple days ago. I've been meaning to buy it, and I'm glad I did. This is a like a breath of fresh year. Some posters do know this, but I'm mostly a Top 40/mostly pop kind of person. And the fact I love this album so much is great news to me, lol. On the first listen, I had mixed feelings about it: "Super Rich Kids" was my standout track, "Pyramids" felt too long, I felt 'meh' over it. On the second listen, the grandness of the album finally stroked me. It is a shame that "channel ORANGE" didn't do well commercially. At least it was huge critically. The fact that he is gay/bi (whatever he is) makes him even more interesting! I hope he wins ALL of his nominations a la Adele. :D The "Thinking 'Bout You" snub in SOTY hurts. Like a bitch.
•Standout tracks: Thinking Bout You, Pyramids, Bad Religion, Pink Matter.
•Songs I could live without: Sierra Leone, Monks "I'll take bullshit if that's all you got." Which is y'all's favorite song? Do you think it could win AOTY? What are Ocean's chances of taking the coveted Best New Artist Grammy?

Definitely the most overrated album of the year. I thought Miguel delivered this year's best R&B record. Though because OC is legitimately good I can't truly hate. But Fiona and Kendrick should be dominating these critics' lists without Frank's company. |

ugh... Metacritic's Music Critic Top 10 List puts him waaay ahead of any other albums of the year. 22 1st places, while Kendrick and Fiona have 7 & 6 respectively... the 92 score is even more ridiculous than earlier this year.

I love "Kaleidoscope Dream" more, but "Channel Orange" really is amazing. I have played about every song at least a dozen times, and several are between my favorites of the year. I think Kendrick, Miguel and Frank can all share the title best album of the year for me, and I think Frank is truly deserving of topping the Metacritic compilation, just as the other two would be. I love Fiona, and I thought her album was truly her masterpiece, but I just like the other three albums better. That said, I'm glad the compilation of critics lists doesn't allign exactly with the Goldderby tastes. Pink in the top 10 would've been ridiculous. EDIT: I also don't get the whining that Kendrick and Fiona are too low. Kendrick is at #2, and Fiona at #4. That's fair. Granted, they have many less points than Frank, but this happens every year. They're still top 5 either way. http://www.metacritic.com/feature/top-ten-lists-best-albums-of-2012 |

I agree I don't really find the "masterpiece" quality in Ocean's album. Another overrated artist/album. I'm not the biggest fan of Miguel, but his current album is head over heels better than Frank's Orange. Fiona Apple undisputedly put out the greatest album of the year, hands down. |

There's been one or two Hip-hip or R&B records dominating these critics' lists for the last three or four years. It's the new indy rock. Besides, a female artist will never end up with the most acclaimed album of the year. The fact that she's in the top five has to be considered an accomplishment. |

^ Adele? I recently bought Fiona's latest album and I still haven't finished listening to it, so I can't comment on that. But, I mean, maybe "channel Orange" is a little overrated. I don't see any problem with that, "Bad Religion", "Pyramids", and "Thinking 'Bout You" are all, IMO, masterpieces and deserve all the attention they can get.

And I'm still not sure about listening to Miguel's album. I don't like Adorn. I loved "Bas Religion" since the first I time heard it, which was when he performed it on Jimmy Kimmel (or was it Fallon?).

What bothers me with Frank being so far ahead in the ranking is that it suggests that his album was head and shoulders better, and that there is no question that he takes the crown. cO is a great album, don't get me wrong, I included it in my top 10 list as well. But it is not the masterpiece people make it to be. His metacritic score was way too high in the first place. 80-85 would be appropriate, but it got a dazzling 92 eventhough everybody says there are certain tracks on the album that they find very underwhelming. Whether it's Sierra Leone, Pilot Jones or Monks, and in my mind this does not qualify it to be a masterpiece.
