Kerry Washington (Scandal) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) will announce the 64th Primetime Emmy® Awards Nominations, along side Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Chairman-CEO Bruce Rosenblum, at 5:40 a.m. PST on Thursday, July 19, 2012.
Kerry Washington currently stars as Olivia Pope on the ABC drama Scandal, which is slated to return for a second season in September 2012. Winner of Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for the film Ray at the NAACP Image Awards in 2005, and nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress in the film Lift in 2002, Washington is a versatile and fearless actress with an impressive list of credits. She garnered critical acclaim for her roles in The Last King of Scotland, opposite Forest Whitaker, for which she was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture at the NAACP Image Awards in 2007; The Dead Girl, opposite Marcia Gay Harden and Brittany Murphy; and in Lakeview Terrace, starring opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Patrick Wilson. Washington was nominated for Best Actress for the 2011 BET Awards. Upcoming projects include The Details, alongside Tobey Maguire, Ray Liotta and Laura Linney; We the Peeples, with Craig Robinson and David Allan Grier; and Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, with Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz. Nick Offerman currently stars as Ron Swanson on the critically acclaimed NBC comedy Parks and Recreation. Offerman plays the masculine director of a parks and recreation department in small town Indiana. Working alongside the ensemble cast of Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe, Offerman is a comedic heavyweight whose role has developed a cult following. For Parks and Recreation, Offerman received the Television Critics Association Award for Achievement in Comedy in 2011, after a previous nomination in 2010. The Critics’ Choice Awards also nominated him for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for 2011. Offerman was recently seen on the big screen in the comedy Casa de Mi Padre, with Will Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna. His other recent films include 21 Jump Street, with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, and Smashed, which recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. With a cast that includes Octavia Spencer, Megan Mullally, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul, Smashed is a comedic drama about a married couple whose bond is built on a mutual love of alcohol and whose relationship is tested when the wife decides to get sober. Sony Pictures will release the film this fall. Offerman produced and starred in Bob Byington’s film Somebody Up There Likes Me, which premiered at the South by Southwest Festival in March 2012 and will be released this fall by Tribeca Films. He can next be seen in the upcoming comedy Gay Dude and an untitled project from Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody, alongside Julianne Hough, Russell Brand and Octavia Spencer, which is slated for a 2013 release. The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live coast to coast on Sunday, September 23, 2012, on ABC, and will originate from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. The awards will be produced by Don Mischer and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Nominating ballots were posted on the Television Academy's website, www.emmys.tv, on June 11, and ballots are to be returned to Ernst & Young by 5:00 p.m. on June 28.

Well, this seals the deal for Offerman. Washington is a nice choice, but this won't push her chances for a nomination.
And if you wanna make sense
Whatcha looking at me for? |

So if the trend continues, where presenters of the emmy's are nominated, we assume Nick Offerman is nominated? But could Kerry Washington get nominated? it is one of the less competitive acting categories after supporting drama actress & comedy lead actor, also they may want pre-empt awards for her that could possibly arise for Django Unchained. Think Melissa McCarthy |

2011 - Melissa McCarthy 2010 - Sofia Vergara 2009 - Jim Parsons and Chandra Wilson(x2) 2008 - Kristin Chenoweth and Neil Patrick Harris 2007 - Kyra Sedgwick and Jon Cryer I think Nick Offerman is now a safe bet for a nomination. On the other hand, Kerry Washington is not even near it, IMO. There are at least 10 possible nominees before her.
No, non riuscirai mai a capire cosa c'è scritto. Ma non importa.

A while ago I read an article about a drought for African-American actresses in Drama Lead Actress and the fact that Kerry Washington could end the drought this year. Now with her going to announce the nominees, I still think she's nowhere near it. But it will be a little less shocking if she somehow miraculously makes it. |

I'd say 2005 with Michael Imperioli and Jami Gertz. "The Sopranos" was on one of its long breaks, and Gertz wasn't going to be nodded for "Still Standing." I remember talk starting that she could get in b/c of the announcements (and for being a former nominee for "Ally McBeal"), but no, that wasn't happening for her. That's probably the most recent time it's happened. The year not reported was 2006 with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Brad Garrett, and that was that awful year JLD won for ". . . New Christine."

I have to say that I've always found it weird that people think being chosen to announce the nominations mean you're actually going to get one or that you will get a boost. I doubt anyone votes for an actor just because he/she is an announcer. This year for example, Nick Offerman is already a strong contender for a nomination because Jon Cryer exited the category and Chris Colfer is on extremely shaky ground. Offerman has critical support (he even won the TCA Award last year) and "Parks and Recreation" is poised for a bigger nomination total this year. As for Kerry Washington, she probably won't get nominated but it wouldn't be a huge shock. I've thought for some time now that she has a great chance for a Golden Globe nomination. In any case, Washington and Offerman are good choices. Looking over the list, 2008 was the worst year. Kristin Chenoweth and Neil Patrick Harris took over the announcement with their constant comments and jokes and instead of being respectful and classy, they made it all about themselves. They would be the worst nomination announcers but no one can overtake Salma Hayek's "performance" when she announced the Oscar nominations. |

And since the ballot was just released Monday, there's no way for them to have some early word on who's nominated yet. It's just a mix of likely contenders, past nominees/winners, stars from the host network, etc. (kind of surprised that there isn't a "Modern Family" guy in Nick Offerman's place though to keep it in the host network's family). I think they're anticipating that open #6 slot and making a "moment" possible in July where they get to make a special announcement of Offerman's first Emmy nomination, which could still backfire. In that sense it's strategic, but he has the cred and overdue status to get in there on his own.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them both nominated but Offerman is closer.

Offerman deserves no nomination for season 4 of P&R. He deserved them for past two years. |

Offerman will get in, with Parks and Rec on the rise on the Emmy radar, and due to Offerman being seen as overdue. Plus, there are 2 spots open. Washington will not be as fortunate, as the competition is much heavier in her category.
