Wow, it's hard to pick a golden turd from a giant pile of turds. I'm tempted to pick Gladiator, but Crash is just a film I abhor on every level. |

There a lot to choose from, but I must always pick Crash. Man, what an overrated film. Second, would be Gladiator because it is not that great and there were other films to choose from, like Traffic and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I love The Sting, but I wish The Exorcist or American Graffiti had won. |

I might have chosen The King's Speech - a pleasant, well-acted, good film, but Best Picture? - had it been there, but I went with Rocky - a movie that I admittedly love - because it beat the masterpiece Network.

Of the ones listed on here: The Artist (though I loved it,) Crash, Rocky, and Gladiator for Drive or Midnight in Paris, Capote or Brokeback Mountain, Taxi Driver, and Traffic respectively. For those NOT mentioned... -The King's Speech for The Social Network -Million Dollar Baby for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Sideways -Chicago for The Pianist, Adaptation, or Far From Heaven -Shakespeare in Love for Saving Private Ryan -Titanic for L.A. Confidential -The English Patient for Fargo -Forrest Gump for The Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, or Quiz Show -Dances With Wolves for Goodfellas or Beauty and the Beast -Driving Miss Daisy for Do the Right Thing, My Left Foot, or Born on the Fourth of July ...and the list goes on and on.
Here's my signature... just so I have it. That way, I have it. I promise. It's just to have it.

CRASH, because it is the kind of movie that wallows in racist stereotypes while simultaneously condemning racism, and because it stole BP from BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, which is unforgivable. BRAVEHEART is a close second, such a nasty piece of work to win Best Picture. |

I have serious problems with the majority of the films listed, but I would cast my vote for "Cavalcade." And smarting over "Citizen Kane" or not, "How Green Was My Valley" has ABSOLUTELY no business being on a list like this. I can name fifty winners off the top of my head that should have been considered first. |

I'll just do a list from the 2000s and so on: Gladiator --> Traffic or Crouching Tiger A Beautiful Mind --> Gosford Park or Fellowship of the Ring Chicago --> The Two Towers (Honestly, I don't have a problem with Chicago winning, but the list is kinda weak that year) Million Dollar Baby --> The Aviator Crash --> Brokeback Mountain The Artist --> Tree of Life (Imagine that!) |

I always look at the list of BEST PICTURE winners.. and i can honestly say that out of 84 winners.... at least 50 imo did NOT deserve to be crowned BEST PICTURE.. The worst offenders. CRASH GLADIATOR BRAVEHEART AN AMERICAN IN PARIS AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS GIGI A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS OLIVER THE FRENCH CONNECTION THE STING |

Gosford Park!?? That movie was booorrriiing. I had to sit through 2 hours and 17 minutes of reading dialog that was just filler dialog. I hated that film. And I usually like/love British Productions (The Queen, tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). If A Beautiful Mind were to lose the Oscar, it should have been Fellowship or maybe, just maybe, Moulin Rouge! But the Academy didn't want to honor the same series for three years straight, and I'm fine with that. Therefore, I have no problems with the A Beautiful Mind win (a film which I seem to be the only one who loved) Chicago, yes, was quite a weak film for BP and should have lost to The Two Towers (which, btw, was the "weakest" of the LOTR films). |

My exact thought when I saw this list. Just wow. It's not only an insult to say Ford's film is at the same level of those bad winners, but it's ridiculous to say it's a bad film. Recently, I watched a 35mm projection of it, and I was mesmerized. While "Citizen kane" is still much superior, that doesn't change the fact that "How Green Was My Valley" is a great film on it's own. |
