Jennifer Hudson - the next EGOT contender?

She already has the Oscar and Grammy, now all she needs is the Tony and Emmy. Winning a Tony seems to be an inevitability whenever the time does come for her to tread the boards on Broadway. But with the recently announced multi-episode arc on Smash coming her way, could she nab the Emmy?

Thoughts?

Seems like there's going to be an awful lot of changes in season 2 of Smash.

It's a possibility but many, many people are in the same boat JHud
Oscar and Grammy (including Jamie Foxx)
Plus Smash ARE good to their guest stars (storylines etc.)
But the characters don't tend to be not very baity/ one-dimensional
Not really EMMY material
I would like it if it could happen though

I think she has a better shot at a guest nom if she guest-stars on Glee.

A guest arc on "Smash"? Doing what? Hmmm. BRB.

ETA: Here it is.

Jennifer Hudson joins NBC's “Smash”

by James Hibberd

NBC’s “Smash” is getting another “American Idol” veteran. Actress-singer Jennifer Hudson is joining NBC’s musical drama for a multi-episode arc next season.

Hudson will portray “Veronica Moore,” who’s described as a Tony Award-winning Broadway star who impacts the lives of Karen (fellow “Idol” vet Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty). “This series is a showcase for some of the best musical talent in the business and that’s a fitting description for Jennifer Hudson,” said Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment. “Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it.”

Hudson won an Oscar for her role in “Dreamgirls” and picked up a Grammy for her self-titled debut album. Added executive producer Steven Spielberg: “First ‘Dreamgirls,’ now ‘Smash.’ I have no doubt Jennifer will continue to deliver even more inspiration to the audience responsible for giving us a second season on NBC.”

“Smash,” one of several NBC shows getting a new showrunner next season, is expected to return to the network’s schedule in early 2013.

I don't know what is funnier? That she is about to collect a legit paycheck after shilling for Weight Watchers or the fact she is playing a Broadway vet name Veronica Moore (too soapy!).

Part of me thinks this is terrific casting. It's a musical drama and she is a powerhouse singer-actor with tons of charisma and a devoted fan base.

And part of me thinks, "Molly? You in danger, girl."
