It's been confirmed by ABC, in September, "GH" will move to 2pm, taking over the vacant slot from "OLTL" after the cancelation of TV horror "The Revolution".

It will lead-into "Katie" the new talk show from Katie Couric.

So ABC is airing a soap at 2 p.m., one written by Ron Carlivati and helmed by Frank Valentini, starring, among others, Michael Easton, Roger Howarth and Kristen Alderson, featuring stories about DID, stillborn babies switched for living ones, a flashy villainess who should clearly be in the loony bin . . . Oh, and they're building Llanview sets.  Seems like the transformation is complete.

You said it emmyloser.

I always thought that some sort of hybrid show combining the three ABC soaps would be the way to go, but never thought they should cancel AMC and OLTL out-right.   I think they should have simply combined OLTL and AMC into one show; with each of them getting 30-minuets each day to tell their stories. They could have kept GH as it.   It would have freed up an hour of air-time each day for a new talk show and reduced the budget dramatically if they cut half the dead-weight of the cast and so on.

The weird thing is that [ABC's General Hospital] already airs at [2 p.m.] here in [California].

That's controlled by one's television stations in a Designated Market Area (DMA). There are over 200 of them in the United States.…

http://www.sportstvjobs.com/resources/local-tv-market-sizes-dma.html

… And I'm not aware whether you're in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, etc. But it is a fact that you're not on Eastern Time (ET), because you're on Pacific Time (PT), which means outside that ET time zone that easily allows your ABC affiliate to air a day's episode of General Hospital two hours after those who see it on ET. (It begins for you at 5 p.m. ET.)

I visit a relative every year in Colorado, which is on Mountain Time (MT), and daytime and prime time are controlled this way through her DMA of Denver, Colo. I'm on Eastern Time, in the Detroit, Michigan market. From August 1993 up to its final date in September 2009, my two CBS affililates aired Guiding Light not at 3 p.m. ET but at 10 a.m. ET. My ABC affiliate was doing that with Ryan's Hope in its final years. (It signed off in January 1989.) Benefit of being on ET, though, is that this is rare; we see things more immediately.

I live in Rhode Island and GL aired at 3pm here, but when I went to college in Boston they had two CBS stations and GL aired at 10am on one and 3pm on the other. One was a Boston station, the other I think was a New York station (I'm not sure), and the 10am episode was one day behind the 3pm episode.

That GL timeslot thing sounds kind of wild, Boidiva.

I live in New Jersey, and growing up I was always in the New York area, but now I'm more borderline NY/Philadelphia.  I think we got GL at 10 am in both markets, as I can't even imagine that one airing in the afternoon.

Also seemed strange to me that ABC made a big announcement about the GH timeslot switch when it doesn't even air at the same time everywhere, but I guess it does in many places.

GH currently airs at 3pm in my market, NYC, and it always has as far as I can remember.

In NYC and when I was in Albany for college, GL was at 10am. I think I caught the show while visiting a friend in San Francisco, and it was on at 3pm.

I wish the networks would accommodate each other's soaps: CBS's two shows from 12:30-2pm, DAYS from 2-3, GH from 3-4. It might be to the benefit of all shows not to compete directly against each other.

And yes, GH has as far as I know always aired at 3pm in any market I've lived in.  And I've lived in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.   I also spent a lot of summers in Maine and GH was always on at 3pm on the East coast.

Actually for me, it was always GH at 3 and Oprah at 4pm.   The only exception being that while Oprah mostly aired on ABC stations, for some odd reason, in Rhode Island she aired on our NBC station. I think it was because our ABC station was so low-rated that they likely weren't able to afford the show.   In our area, WLNE 6 (ABC6) has historically always been the lowest rated station in our area, sometimes even lower rated than the FOX station.    So I assume that the NBC station WJAR 10 (always #1 with a bullet) likely had more money to pay for Oprah's show.
