Patricia Clarkson! She was fantastic on Six Feet Under and completely deserved her two wins.  Sarah O'Connor was a magnificent character brought to life with great vigor and passion by Clarkson.

Guest-acting awards were initiated in 1986. They first started off without separating the genders. In 1989 the current system we recognize took effect. Winners among the ladies guesting in drama were:

 Shirley Knight, thirtysomething (ABC)
 Kay Lenz, Midnight Caller (NBC)
Viveca Lindfors, Life Goes On (ABC)
Peggy McCay, The Trials of Rose O'Neill (CBS)
suspended (guests in that year's awards were combined with series lead and supporting players)
Elaine Stritch, Law & Order (NBC)
 Faye Dunaway, Columbo (ABC)
 Shirley Knight, NYPD Blue (ABC)
Amanda Plummer, The Outer Limits (Showtime)
 Dianne Wiest, Avonlea (Disney Channel)
 Cloris Leachman, Promise Land (CBS)
 Debra Monk, NYPD Blue (ABC)
 Beah Richards, The Practice (ABC)
 Sally Field, ER (NBC)
Patricia Clarkson, Six Feet Under (HBO)
 Alfre Woodard, The Practice (ABC)

Among these Loretta Devine is my choice. But my all-time favourites are: Kate Burton in Grey's Anatomy, Sharon Gless in Nip/Tuck and Jennifer Love Hewitt in Law & Order: SVU.
