Completely agree with the comments about Mary-Louise Parker; she should have absolutely submitted "No Man Is Pudding" in Season 4. I started watching the series after this episode has originally aired, and had read a lot of praise for her performance in that episode on Gold Derby; therefore, I went in with such high expectations, and was certainly not let down. Absolutely an Emmy-winning performance, and she messed up... big time. Unfortunately, Parker wasn't nominated in Season 6 when she could have submitted "Boomerang." If she had, she could have been extremely competitive, too. Also have to echo the sentiments on Bates' submission from last season. While I don't think that Bates would have overcome the competition, especially Marguiles with "In Sickness," Bates gave a brilliant performance in "A Day in the Life," and I was extremely disappointed to find out she submitted "Innocent Man" instead. |

Edie Falco, The Sopranos, 2007: Falco's submission was "The Second Coming," in which she was good in, but had less screentime than her previous submissions. However she has good scenes with Gandolfini and Iler in it, and it dealt with a sensitive subject of problems with her kids. However, I think she should have submitted "Chasing It." It had classic a classic Tony and Carmela fight and she had much more range in it. Sally Field won that year, but I think Falco would have been a stronger competitor for The Sopranos' last season. |

There was only one submission in 2007 for the lead actress in a drama series that was really worthy to me, and that was the Driver's, she should have won with no doubt. |

Actually, as I understand it, didn't she end up submitting something else? I vaguely remember some of us being upset that she didn't submit that episode. I could be wrong, but I thought she messed up by not submitting it. "Hearts are often broken When there are words unspoken In your soul there's answers to your prayers"- Whtiney Houston, Exhale |

This. For the people mentioning Mary-Louise Parker, she wouldn't have won even with "No Man is Pudding". If Tina Fey could't have beaten Collette with " Reunion" and with 30 Rock absolutely dominating all categories ( winning comedy series, 5 acting nominations, 4 writing nominations, and 3 directing), Parker wouldn't have been able to either. |

Had Parker been nominated in 2006, she should've submitted the pilot episode of "Weeds." She would've easily won in that somewhat underwhelming field of contenders. She's quite funny in the pilot and has that money scene at the end of the episode where she breaks down in Conrad's arms.

I see your point about Marcia submitting Guilty, but I feel she had some better options....however, the thing that I find about Marcia Cross with Season One is she was someone who would have benefitted more from watching the full season rather than one submission. |

I really think that Jane Krakowski would already be an Emmy winner if she submitted "Jackie Jormp-Jomp" in 2009 instead of "The Ones"; "The Ones", while not a total bust, just didn't give her the material and the genius writing that "Jackie Jormp-Jomp" did. |

More of my bad submission thoughts: John Goodman, 1995 ("All About Rosey (Part 2)" instead of "The Blaming of the Shrew") I think he was really good in the second part of "All About Rosey". He had that hilarious scene at the end of the episode where he is supposed to be an adult DJ, but he has autism. It was really a hilarious performance on his part. Laurie Metcalf, 1995 ("The Blaming of the Shrew" & "Single Married Female" instead of "Bed and Bored" & "Single Married Female") I think this would have been a slam dunk win for Laurie Metcalf had she submited "The Blaming of the Shrew" with "Single Married Female". "Single Married Female" gave her a more dramatic performance, where she is caught by Dan cheating on Fred, while "Blaming of the Shrew" gave her the hilarious comedic performance, especially in this scene: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIiTgJU_jl0 John Goodman, 1994 ("A Stash from the Past" instead of "Guilt By Imagination") Talk about a slam-dunk submission episode. John Goodman would have finally won an Emmy for Roseanne had he submitted the hilarious "Stash from the Past" episode, where Dan and Roseanne find their old stash of pot in the basement, which leads them to smoke it, which leads to one of the funniest scenes in the history of Roseanne! www.youtube.com/watch?v=izGw9QGMVuY&feature=related Roseanne Barr, 1994 ("A Stash from the Past" instead of "The Driver's Seat") I think Roseanne made a big mistake in 1994 when she submitted "The Driver's Seat". While it was a good episode for her character, it was a dramatic performance. And it was her 2nd tape in a row to feature a dramatic performance instead of a more comedic one. She had won the year before with a dramatic tape. I think the reason she didn't win again was because voters like to see comedic performances in comedy categories. And as you saw in the clip I posted for John Goodman, "A Stash from the Past" was a really good comedic performance tape for her. John Goodman, 1993 ("Crime and Punishment" instead of "Terms of Estrangement (Part 2)") Let's face it, John Goodman was kind of the Sofia Vergara of Roseanne when it came to submission. He constantly chose the wrong tape. "Crime and Punishment" was such a good tape for him, and it featured alot of great physical acting for him, that I think could and would have carried him to a win, which wouldn't have been that hard considering that was the year Roseanne Barr and Laurie Metcalf won the Emmy, and Sara Gilbert gained her first nomination. Roseanne Barr, 1992 ("Stressed to Kill" instead of "A Bitter Pill to Swallow") Roseanne was hilarious in "Stressed to Kill", where her character takes up smoking to try to deal with her hectic life, but has to keep the habit hidden from the rest of her family. It featured a hilarious scene where she burns herself with the cigarrette when she is congratulating Darlene on getting a B on a paper. It would have made for a much better submission than "A Bitter Pill to Swallow" Betty White, 1992 ("Home Again, Rose (Parts 1 & 2)" instead of "Dateline: Miami") Betty White could have won the Emmy in 1992 had she submitted the two part episode "Home Again, Rose", where her and the rest of the ladies attend a high school reunion, a school none of them went to, and she ends up collapsing and has to have triple bypass surgery. It was a funny and dramatic episode to the series, and I think it was much better than "Dateline: Miami", where she and the ladies discuss bad dates they have all had. Alice Ghostley, 1992 ("Carlene's New Apartment" instead of "The Strange Case of Clarence & Anita") I was super excited when Alice Ghostley finally was nominated for an Emmy in 1992 for her hilarious work on Designing Women. Then she messed up by not submitting "Carlene's New Apartment", where she had a hilarious scene in the apartment when she gets fired up and tries to fight Julia. It was one of the funniest episodes for her character, and, had she submitted the episode, might have carried her to an Emmy win! Estelle Getty, 1991 ("Never Yell Fire in a Crowded Retirement Home (Parts 1 & 2)" instead of "Ebbtide's Revenge" & "There Goes the Bride (Part 1)") "Never Yell Fire..." was one of the best episodes for Estelle Getty in the history of The Golden Girls. It featured a heartfelt performance, that was both comedic and dramatic. She would have won the Emmy hands down had she submitted it in 1991. Instead she went with "Ebbtide's Revenge", an episode where I dont feel she did anything special, and "There Goes the Bride", and episode where she only has one good scene. Betty White, 1990 ("72 Hours" instead of "Rose Fights Back") This would have been a slam dunk win for Betty White had she submitted "72 Hours", where her character thinks she may have gotten AIDS from a faulty blood transfusion years ago. It was such a great episode for her, and it featured alot of dramatic and comedic work, which I believe would have led to her beating Murphy Brown had she submitted the episode. Estelle Getty, 1989 ("Yes We Have No Havanas" & "Sophia's Choice" instead of "Two Rode Together" & "Days and Nights of Sophia Petrillo") This was one of the best choices Estelle Getty could have made in 1989. "Yes we Have no Havanas" featured great comedic acting, an episode where her and Blanche end up dating the same man and having to share him, while "Sophia's Choice", the episode where she tries to get her friend out of a horrible retirement home, features great dramatic acting. She would have won in 1989 had she submitted these episodes along with "Sophia's Wedding (Parts 1 & 2)" |

I thought that Marcia's submission for season 1 was a terrific one. Also, I will never understand the argument that Felicity benefitted from Marcia's submission. I know Lynette battled with that other Mom, but I really wasn't that impressed with that. Having just rewatched the pilot in the last month, all of those Lynette scenes there were actually pretty hilarious so I could see how Emmy voters would have been swayed just by that. Then again, I also found that Marcia's work in the pilot was also well done. So in theory the actresses' submissions should have helped each other. Who knows? That definitely is a shame that Marcia didn't even get nominated for her season 2 work. I too think she was deserving of a win. That year was the tape submission year right, so perhaps Marcia should have gone with another episode. I don't know the episode by name, and you've probably already listed it above, but the episode where Bree goes out of control when the girl at Danielle's party takes some of the frosting off the cake was a terrific one. Although some argued that there was a really good scene in that episode that would have benefitted Felicity, thus hurting Marcia's chances again like in her season 1 submission. (I think it may have been Lynette thinking that Tom may have been having an affair). With regards to this Emmy season of eligibility, I still am disappointed that Marcia didn't even enter her name for contention. Neither did Eva. Someone made the argument that of the 4 lead actresses from "Desperate Housewives", Felicity had the best shot and so Eva and Marcia being good pals of hers decided to give Felicity all of the support. Someone also commented that the nature of Marcia's work in comparison to recent nominees/winners probably made her think what's the use too - even though it's about the performance. I know Marcia's chances were very slim, but to me season 8 was a standout season for her along with seasons 1 & 2, so a nomination would have been deserved. Both Marcia and Eva submitted for every other season they were eligible so I just think they should have done so for their final season. |

Honestly, I don't think anyone could have stopped Candice Bergen in 1992. She had buzz, her show was making headlines during the voting period, and she had a slamdunk tape "Birth 101." |
