Will Danny Boyle be eligible for directing the olympics this year, if he wns he's half way to EGOT. |

No. The Opening Ceremony of the Games of the XXX Olympiad were directed by Danny Boyle, which would lead any person to assume he would be eligible. However, the director of the ceremony is not nominated for an Emmy. The director of the telecast is the one nominated for the Emmy. That person is Bucky Gunts, who has directed all of the Olympic telecasts since 1996. The best album of the year so far. "Past Gone" is the best song of the year as well. Shame on you for thinking Kathryn Joosten gives a worthy supporting performance in this season, or any for that matter, of DH. She is clearly a guest and she did not have enough material to be worthy this season. The only reason she is present in this category is because she was a very beloved member of the board of governors for years. I do love the role she had on DH, but what I love on TV isn't always Emmy worthy and I don't let my love for that show/person cloud my judgement (cough cough naya Rivera cough cough).

Going by category, these seem to be the strongest new contenders in each acting race in Drama. Any others you guys feel deserve mention? Lead Actor: Kevin Bacon (The Following), Andre Braugher (Last Resort), Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom), Woody Harrelson (True Detective- if it is submitted here and not in Movie/Miniseries), Matthew McConnaughey (True Detective) Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary-I could see him being a Simon Baker type nomination if the show is a big hit for CBS), Dennis Quaid (Vegas), Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan-if it airs this season) Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex-ditto). Lead Actress: Connie Britton (Nashville), Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex), Mary McDonnell (Major Crimes), Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom), Sigourney Weaver (Political Animals- if not submitted in Movie/Miniseries) Supporting Actor: Beau Bridges (Masters of Sex), Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire- new castmember on a preexisting show obviously), Michael Chiklis (Vegas), Elliott Gould (Ray Donovan), Terry O'Quinn (666 Park Avenue), James Purefoy (The Following) Jon Voight (Ray Donovan), Sam Waterston (The Newsroom) Supporting Actress: Ellen Burstyn (Political Animals), Margo Martindale (Masters of Sex- may be a guest), Carrie-Anne Moss (Vegas) Hayden Panetierre (Nashville), Vanessa Williams (666 Park Avenue) |

Maybe I came off as a bit cold, but you should never use that kind of language on these forums. The fact is that two living veterans (Betty and Cloris, the two most winningest actors in Emmy history) were snubbed in favor of a deceased one (Kathy). Last year, Betty made it in over Kathy and both were still alive. The loss of Kathy, who had such an impact on the TV community and what it means to be an actor, is a great one and her fellow TV actors recognized that loss by nominating her. While it is not deserved, I love it and welcome it none the less. Delete your post please. The best album of the year so far. "Past Gone" is the best song of the year as well. It's posts like this that get people banned from this site. (Trust me, Tom has banned people before, and for this exact thing) |

^^^Exactly. I posted my observations and instead of whoever that is posting his or her observations/opinions, they attack me and use very profane language. I don't want anyone to get banned, b/c I can't imagine not having this site, but he/she needs a talkin-to.

Another veteran contending in Comedy Supporting Actress: Lily Tomlin in Malibu Country She can get in even if the show is simply mediocre. |

A Person, I don't think "Masters Of Sex" is a drama. The word from the TCA's is that the trailer is really, really FUNNY. How is Showtime gonna pass on the opportunity of submitting this in comedy, when apparently their funniest show airing is NURSE JACKIE? |

| Then bann me...I still don't think that someone should talk about the late Joosten like that. It's rude and incredibly shameful. Respect her memory and watch the DH finale...her performance is worthy. | |

I said nothing about Mrs. Joosten or her memory to cause any sane person to go off like that. She was nominated this year b/c she passed away and there's no doubt about that. Her performance in the finale, which was about one of only 10 episodes this year, was ok. If you combine the first AND second part of the finale, she's must better and is in contention. But a nomination does not reflect a particular performance, and since she did not have any buzz prior to her death, it is true she was nominated for that reason.

I've heard that too. Especially with Lizzy Caplan, you wouldn't expect it to be a drama. And Episodes is actually very funny and it's on Showtime. The best album of the year so far. "Past Gone" is the best song of the year as well. Check out Mike Stud's debut album on iTunes. |

I think Masters of Sex will be placed as a drama, especially if it has a runtime of 60 minutes per episode, which is probably the reason why the very funny Shameless isn't submitted as a comedy series. |
