If JLD wins for "Veep," will she be the first star to win the top categories (lead and supporting) for THREE TV series? There are probably several examples of such triple champs if we count guest and other roles .... Cloris Leachman won for Malcolm, MTM Show and for Cher's variety show .... ![]() |

I have to believe that she'll win an Emmy for this role; I've said in previous threads that I believe that Selina Meyer is Louis-Dreyfus's best role to date, and I have to think that Emmy voters, who have loved her in the past, will see that too. If this is Amy Poehler's year, I see Louis-Dreyfus being the new front-runner until she wins. |

Elaine is by far her best role to date. I'd even argue that Selina Meyer is her worst (but I REALLY loved Seinfeld and Christine, so there may be some bias there). I don't know if she would be setting a record, and I don't think she wins (Poehler and Deschanel have better tapes), but it would be an interesting that an actress like her gets a distinction like this if she does.

I think she is winning this year. This is an amazing role for her. She is absolutely fantastic! |

I believe Julia Louis-Dreyfus already has the distinction of having the most nominations for a comedic actress with twelve to date. I certainly share the same bias that you do, Trent, as I love Seinfeld and couldn't have been a bigger fan or champion of Old Christine. I do feel that Veep allows her to explore so many different avenues than her previous roles didn't: single-camera, cable, political animal. Maybe it's the newness factor of this series, but I'm just loving every little thing she does in this role, and I think it's overall much stronger than Old Christine was, even in it's best episodes. |

Agreed. I'm a Seinfeld fanatic, and I love Veep. So absolutely agreed with this. But they're all great. |

.......... Betty White already achieved that record. 1952 - Life with Elizabeth ( Leading ) 1975 & 1976 - Mary Tyler Moore Show ( Supporting ) 1986 - Golden Girls ( Lead ) Some people are skeptical about her 1952 win and they deny it, just because IMDB doesn't have it, or because alot of the early emmy awards are not recorded in the Emmt's website. But there is video footage of her talking about winning it in 1952 and there is a picture of her holding it in 1952. |

Yeah, at some point someone in the Academy with access to the archives will have to dig deeper and confirm whether this was a regular Emmy or some other kind. Perhaps a regional Emmy? |

It was a local Emmy. I originally argued with Boomer that it wasn't, but it is confirmed by the fact the local station was awarded the Emmy and that only nominees from the local LA area were accepted convinced me. No doubt she won an Emmy, it just doesn't count as a Primetime Emmy Award. The best album of the year so far. "Past Gone" is the best song of the year as well. Thats confusing, because on the emmy website it does recognize that she got nominated for the same category and performance in 1951....... |

Getting back to JLD, can someone please explain her character in Veep. I was just wondering, is this the same character she has been playing for almost 20 years, or is this a different charcter and role? I love JLD more than anything and think she is a hell of an actress, but almost feel like she is falling into a rut when it comes to the characters she plays. She has certainly mastered the clueless, ditzy, slef-absorbed, somewhat outlandish, single middle-aged, woman. While she does a hell of a job playing this said character, I just can't help but worry or feel this is more of the same from her. I do not have HBO so I have yet to see any of Selina Meyer or Veep. Like most I believe she is a lock for a nomination and in contention for the win. I guess I would kind of be less than excited though if she won for the same old same old. So can someone please tell me whether or not this a new show and different role for her. If it is than I will feel a lot better about her winning an Emmy if she does. No matter what happens with the Emmy's, I would love to see her tackle a drama after she is done with Veep, however far into the future that may be. If she were to win an Emmy for a dramatic role now that would be a real feat. |

Julia's character in VEEP is totally different then her other 2 major characters. I think that she has a big shot at winning and i think this will be down to Amy and Julia sort of like it was down to Meryl and Viola at the oscars........ I am rooting for Amy Poehler to win, because she NEEDS her emmy. not only is her emmy win WAY OVER DUE, but she deserves it this year. But i love JULIA'S character and performance as well. But i would be heart broken if i saw Amy lose to a newcomer......... i mean there is no doubt that julia WILL get her emmy for this show but this year it should go to amy. But julia is a VERY close 2nd place |

And yet she is not even listed as a nominee in the 1952 database. And why are you trusting the Emmy database one year and then not in another? The best album of the year so far. "Past Gone" is the best song of the year as well. Check out Mike Stud's debut album on iTunes. |
