I just posted about Katey Sagal and said her constant snubbing of a nomination may be the biggest snub in the history of the Drama Lead Actress category. Then it sort of made me wonder about what other posters thought of when asked this.

We've seen several invited to the club as bridesmaids but never the brides - Martin Sheen (The West Wing), Peter Boyle (Everybody Loves Raymond), Angela Lansbury (Murder, She Wrote), Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle), John Goodman (Roseanne), Steve Carell (The Office). We've also seen them win for other things (i.e. Sheen, Boyle, Goodman).

But when looking back on the history of a category, what snubbings sort of dilute the category and prove that Emmy didn't always get it right? Susan Lucci hoped to win with each nomination (her words in her memoir) but at least she got the nomination.

When pondering, think of future Emmyologists discovering great work and going "Wait!! [Insert name and specific role] wasn't even nominated for an Emmy?! They should have won but...They didn't even get the nomination?"

Ken Marino, Party Down.

That show never stood a CHANCE, but he acted his butt off. That scene with him and Henry sitting on a random lawn = AMAZING acting. Or Ron getting beat up via lame sports objects = EVEN MORE AMAZING. Total bummer Party Down wasn't a possibility, cause it was A+++ television.

Penny Johnson Jerald deserved to be nominated each year in the Supporting Actress in a Drama for the first three seasons of 24.

Gavin MacLeod was never nominated for his work on The Mary Tyler Moore Show while all of his cast mates were nominated from 1971 to 1977.

I was annoyed I had to go as far down as your post before anyone mentioned it. Considering it is arguably the greatest series ever and easily the best written drama series ever that a few writing nominations aren't enough.

John C McGinley for Scrubs. It's such a tailor made role and performance for an Emmy that it almost looks like Emmy bait. I will never be able to undersand why it didn't happen.

Considering some of the people that have been nominated lately, with automatic bait, automatic buzz, it will forever be weird how Penny Johnson Jerald and Dennis Heysbert never got a nod for 24.

I think Courtney Cox's snubs sort of make sense. It's awful of course, but analyzing it, it makes total sense to me.

Lauren Graham is also a nice example.

I never watched The Shield that much, but it seems like it got even more acclaim and maybe even ratings (not sure) after Chiklis won and got a second nomination and yet the show disappeared completely from Emmy's radar, save for that CCH Pounder nod.

And this thread seems to be for things that seemed obvious or almost happened but never did, so I don't think Party Down really fits here.

CHLOE! It pains me to see whom they nominated instead of her all these years. Especially Sharon Gless in 2010, she prevented Sevigny's win for "The Greater Good".

And Lauren Graham. Seriously, she created an iconic character and all she got was a single GG nomination...
And if you wanna make sense
Whatcha looking at me for?

I know I only put Lynch, but honestly, everyone on Party Down was worthy.
