For those I'm predicting: Modern Family. I don't wanna say it should get shut out, since people like Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen do consistently good work week to week but if we could cut its number of nominations in half it would free up so many spots for actors and shows that truly deserve it. Jon Cryer would be a waste of a nomination. Give it a rest, is he really THAT great?! Mariska Hargitay, while deserving in her earlier years is just phoning it in as of late IMO. For those I'm NOT predicting: If Glee gets any more major nominations the Emmys will be a joke. Ditto for Dexter's horrid sixth season. Finally, James Spader for The Office. One of the leading contributers to The Office's absolutely failure of an eighth season. If he gets in based on their unhealthy love affair for him I will puke.

Drama: Downton Abbey and Boardwalk Empire- Both shows were a disappointment IMO. They shouldn't take spots from more deserving shows like The Good Wife and Justified. Drama Actress: Mariska Hargitay- Please Emmys please. Let her go. Glenn Close- I get that she's Glenn Close. She's amazing. But last season of Damages I was blown away by most all of the rest of the cast moreso than by her. Drama Supporting Actor: Alan Cumming- Josh Charles is SO much more deserving. It annoys me that Cumming is even in the conversation but that could be my annoyance with his character rubbing off. Drama Supporting Actress: Archie Panjabi- I've long thought she was overrated but what exactly did she do this season other than look sad occasionally? I can think of several other actresses who are much more deserving. Comedy Actress: Zooey Deschanel- Her schtick drives me crazy. Tina Fey- I think she's a brilliant writer but significantly overrated as an actress, particularly this season. Comedy Supporting Actress: Betty White- I get she's a television icon but she's not even the best on her show. Sofia Vergara- Not a fan. I think she's overrated and I've never thought that more than watching this past season of Modern Family. Really what would please me most is if Modern Family's nominations got cut by about half. |

Of the "contenders" as identified by GoldDerby-- Drama Series: Game Of Thrones (I'm predicting it, but it does nothing for me) Drama Lead Actor: Kelsey Grammer Drama Lead Actress: Mariska Hargitay (and I have loved her in past seasons, but the storylines in SVU: 2.0 have not given her much) Comedy Series: Louie Comedy Lead Actor: Jon Cryer (and that's only slightly over Louis C.K.) Comedy Lead Actress: Laura Dern Drama Supporting Actor: Neal McDonough Drama Supporting Actress: Katharine McPhee (I know she's pretty far down the list, but this would really make me wretch) Comedy Supporting Actor: Chris Colfer Comedy Supporting Actress: Betty White (she's pretty much an inevitable nod, but the writing is so beneath her talent) Drama Guest Actor: Fred Willard Drama Guest Actress: Jean Smart Comedy Guest Actor: Jon Hamm (good performance, but I'm just over the Hamm love and I'd be slightly more disappointed with this than yet another Arnett nod) Comedy Guest Actress: Whoopi Goldberg (for Glee, where she had hardly anoything to do, and I'd be slightly less disappointed with a nod for her performance on The Middle) |

Zooey Deschanel - I'm not that impressed with her Betty White - she's adorable and all, but that's about it Hugh Laurie - his ship has sailed Lea Michele - can't handle her Tina Fey - But the one that would bug me the most: Sofia Vergara - I just don't get the fuss over her at all and think she's really overrated. The fact that she is predicted in the "2013 Emmy" thread is really bugging me. |

This will be an unpopular choice, but I completely forgot about her... Maggie Smith. I really liked both seasons of Downton, saw them both in like 2 days recently for the first time, enjoyed the hell out of it...but where was Maggie Smith? She's hilarious, she's great, she brings a lot to her scenes with those expressions so typical of her....but was she even in 10% of the season? She's the Cloris Leachman of the drama categories. And to top it off, she basically has a comedic performance here. Of course it made me question the hell out of that Emmy win last year and that automatic Globe and SAG win had it not been for Jessica Lange. And it made me question even more all the drama around her maybe not being in the third season. I would've missed her, sure, but she's not the most important part of the show at all. By the way, I kind of don't even feel they deserve the Drama Series nomination either. |

Mariska Hargitay, Jon Cryer, Alec Baldwin, Julianna Margulies, Kyra Sedgwick. I don't enjoy their work in these roles (even though I used to like Mariska Hargitay). I realize it's not nice to root against someone but they already have so many nominations and wins at various awards shows and they are incredibly wealthy, so I don't feel guilty at all. I do feel guilty for rooting against Max Greenfield. He's not rich or famous like the aforementioned people and an Emmy nomination would help his career. I just can't stand the character or the performance he delivers. I find him insufferable. So I wish nice things happen to him but he stays away from the Emmys. |
