Rememeber for Diane Keaton in Somethin's Gotta Give? I think it's almost the same type of role. And she's Meryl Streep which always help. I think she's pretty much in right now. I'm not saying that she will end up as a nominee, but right now, she's safe.

OMG!!! She is THE best Actress on Earth!!!!

The film is amazing and both Meryl and Tommy are giving us one of their best performances ever.

This is a new Meryl Streep, the whole performance was delicious, I enjoyed more than Julie and Julia and It´s Complicated.

She is the winner for Best Comedy Globe if the voters send Whitney Houston to supporting...as far for an OSCAR nom I can say she is in.

WOW!

The awards season is not even close to arrival. At this point, yes, Streep is likely in the Best Actress line up for GG and Oscars. I wouldn't say a slam dunk in GG as the Les Mis ladies might show up in Lead Comedy/Muscial. As much as the GG love Streep, I think everyone is cognizant of the possible juggernaut AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY coming in 2013 and will back away from Streep until then.

I really enjoyed this film. It was slow at some parts, but it had an excellent screenplay and storyline. Streep and Carrell's performances were fantastic and on point. Though Jones was definitely the standout. I'd say this is a lock for the Golden Globe Comedy Actress and Actor, and picture. Would love to see Carrell get recognition, this has been his best performance I have seen in a while. He was very convincing as a therapist. Streep was low key, but very effetive and emotional. Tommy Lee Jones was perfect I must say.
I really doubt this will make much splash at the Oscars. At best I could see a screenplay nomination. Would love to see Carrell get a supporting nomination.

The Cinemascore for this (a very generous rating system) was only B, which means a mixed response from the overwhelmingly older audience that came for this, most of them primed to love it.

The gross is actually OK, and if this can hang around and fall less than a normal film, might yet pass $75 million.

But the somewhat lackluster response has to be factored in when considering Streep's nomination chances, which might be uphill with her needed 19% #1 votes to make it in. Her chances remain dependent on a lackluster field the rest of the year.

Never say definitely with Streep. There is an Academy screening today, let's see how that goes. Slim slim slim pickens for lead actress this year, so she would get in. This is right up the demographic with the Academy. I saw the film the other night and it is well written and acted. Streep never looked worse in a movie- totally made up frumpy and in terrible hair and clothes. The entire acting is wonderful from her and Tommy Lee. I believe 3 nominations could come out of this, original screenplay, actor and actress. and possible picture if they go with maximum of 10 nominees. With Great Gatsby pushed to 2013, there is another opening. Sorry, 2012 appears to be a weak movie year.

Saw this last night. As reviews have stated, the film is not the comedy it has been advertised as. There are actually fairly well written couples therapy scenes, so I was kind of surprised by that. I think Tommy Lee Jones does a rather good job here. He's lead, so I don't think he'll factor into the Oscar category unless they push him supporting. I'm mixed on the Streep performance. I'm thinking she was given free rein over her performance, so I don't know if I should blame her or the director. She has one breakdown scene that sounded very forced and unbelievable, and she is consistenly allowed to overact in the couples therapy scenes with her reaction shots while Jones' character is speaking (which makes this feel more like a play than a movie). There is a great scene near the very end where you can tell what she's thinking about, but there are real missteps along the way. I wouldn't rule her out on a nomination, but a win would be shocking (and that's why she may not get the #1 votes necessary, since why would people put her as their #1 when they know there's no shot at her winning).

Just saw this movie today...... And it was really good! there were some comedy scenes but most of it was dramatic. I don't know why people are describing it as a comedy. But this was a very good film!

She will not be nominated for Hope Spring. The Comedy Globe nomination is a lock (not sure if she'll win), but the Oscar nomination won't come until 2014 with the film adaptadion of August: Osage County. Now that role has Oscar written all over.

That role won the Best ACTRESS IN A PLAY Tony Award for Deanna Dunagan. Meryl will do wonders with the role. However, at this early stage, I have her in my predictions because of past with the academy and three wins. Also, she won last year , meaning that she is still in the academy's minds. Also, if she wins the Golden Globe in January, I think she's a lock , unless 'HYDE PARK ON HUDSON' is classified as comedy of somewhat, then I think Laura Linney may win. However, at the moment I think Streep has a place in the Best Actress Oscar Line Up.

Thanks to this movie I'm now more than sure that Merl is indeed very overrated. What a mess of a performance. It's obvious why she works only with no-name directors. Because they let her do whatever she wants. And it's so transperent in this particular movie. Jones was very solid but her... an absolute mess. MESS.

Her performance was far from being a total mess, but I liked TLJ's performance better than hers. It would be great if he got nominated for this somehow.

I doubt either will be nominated. I see neither the #1 votes needed nor Sony really pushing this hard (they really only put out the money when it makes sense, can make them more money and/or are contractually obligated). Since TLJ has little chance of being nominated and none of winning, MS has only some chance of being nominated and none of winning, my guess is they'll put their efforts into Zero Dark 30 and maybe Looper.

I'd actually think that TLJ would be a more likely nominee (his character has more surprising moments/less annoying/shrill).
