People are listing episodes 1 & 2 together for Downton Abbey and they're also listing episode 8. But there isn't an episode 8 if I'm correct. The first two episodes in the UK aired as one in the US, therefore making it one episode. And episodes 7 & 8 in the UK aired together too. Then the Christmas Special aired as the season finale, episode 7. That means Episode 1 takes up a whole tape, Episodes 2-5 take up half of a tape, and episodes 6 & 7 take up whole tapes as well. This is the way they aired in the US so this is how they should be eligible for the Emmys.
The best album of the year so far. "Past Gone" is the best song of the year as well. Check out Mike Stud's debut album on iTunes. |

Thanks TV12, I'm still not sure why they were edited for the US airings but this does clear things up.

Jack, thanks a lot for your reasoning behind the choices. I like your pairing of "Hermanos" and "Salud," as it is (a) a pairing that I called for back when the season was first airing and (b) because it contains the mini-arc involving Don Eladio. But I don't think that "Salud" is going to have the same effect for voters who haven't seen "Bug." If Cranston is bruised and bloodied, but we didn't see the fight that got him there, I wonder if the tape will be as effective. I think everything with Gus and Jesse would play well, but the Walt material in "Salud" could hold it back. Also, I don't think Breaking Bad has ever rearranged the order of episodes in their pairings. I.E. "Crawl Space" comes after "Salud," so past tape submissions suggest they would not move it forward to pair it with "Box Cutter" or "Problem Dog." Remember when we all thought that the pairing of "Sunset" and "One Minute" was a no-brainer and a slam dunk, only to see the producers pair "Sunset" with "No Mas?" Yeah... that did not help them in the least. If they do not pair "Hermanos" and "Salud," then the former should go with "Crawl Space," an episode that encapsulates everything I loved about the fourth season. As for "Box Cutter" ... yes, it's violence can be off-putting. But its use of silences and dark, dark comedy might actually sell the show's tone to the voter more than any premiere they've had so far. My pairings: "Box Cutter" and "Problem Dog" "Hermanos" and "Crawl Space" "End Times" and "Face Off"

it can't be paired with anything can it? and what about the rest? I mean 2nd season had 8 episodes before Christmas special but apparently some of them were combined. could you please clarify which one were combined from those 8? |

Breaking Bad "Box Cutter" and "Cornered" "Salud" and "Crawl Space" "End Times" and "Face-Off" "Crawl Space" needs to be with "Salud" in order for that episode to have its full effect. "Hermanos" isn't very Emmy friendly, and I just don't think it's very good. Homeland "Pilot" and "The Weekend" "Representative Brody" and "The Vest" "Marine One" if they can get away with "Marine One" being just one tape it should be. If not, "Pilot" and "Blind Spot" "The Good Soldier" and "The Weekend" " The Vest" and "Marine One" |

This seems to be a popular listing, but I think Blackwater plays better as a second episode than a first. I'd say Tape B: The Prince of Winterfell and Blackwater Tape C: A Man Without Honor and Valar Morghulis The Prince of Winterfell leads into Blackwater about as well as anything does, and having it play second leaves a stronger impression of it in the voter's mind. I also think Valar Morghulis is a great second tape, considering it's the season finale, and A Man Without Honor sets it up well enough the an unfamiliar viewer won't be baffled. A lot of the threads actually connect fairly well, with Dany's story, the happenings in Winterfell, Arya's arrangement with Jaqen and even, outside of missing the battle, what's happening in King's Landing. My tape A would have been another non-sequential pairing of The Night Lands leading into Garden of Bones. Seems like a waste not to include Melisandre birthing a smoke monster, but I can see how The North Remembers and The Night Lands might play better together instead. RE-HIRE CHRISTIE CLARK! |

I think DA's Christmas episode will count for 1 tape already. |

"Blackwater" would be a terrific second episode to a tape, so as long as it, "A Man without Honor" (great dialogue) and the season finale make it in and "The Prince of Winterfell" (so convoluted) does not, I am happy. |

This is not aimed directly at you, but to all who predict DA's episode submissions. According to Emmy rules, episodes 1, 6, and 7(the Christmas Special) take up an entire tape and episodes 2-5 take up half a tape. You are going by the episodes titles in England, which is not eligible here. The best album of the year so far. "Past Gone" is the best song of the year as well.
