Oscar vehicle for Adams and Eastwood:

Clint Eastwood Throws a Curve
For nearly two decades, Clint Eastwood has acted for only one director--himself. But when his longtime cinematic sidekick Rob Lorenz took the helm of the family baseball drama Trouble With the Curve (out Sept. 28), the iconic actor found himself in front of the camera for the first time since 2008's Gran Torino. Eastwood plays Gus, an Atlanta Braves scout with secret vision problems whose daughter, Mickey (Amy Adams), reluctantly agrees to be his eyes. "He gets his chance to prove whether he still has value as a scout--and as a dad," says Lorenz, who has worked as a producer or assistant director on Eastwood's films since 1995. Justin Timberlake costars as a fellow scout Johnny. "They're friendly," Lorenz says. "When Johnny was a ballplayer, Gus scouted him." But when Johnny develops eyes for Mickey, you can just imagine the older fellow narrowing his a little.

I'm thinking Amy Adams will be pushed as Lead Actress for this, and of course make a bid for Supporting Actress for 'The Master'. Perhaps she'll end up a double nominee this year.

My hope is for Clint to receive a Best Actor nomination. He gave my favorite performance in M$B and I'd LOVE to see him win an acting Oscar.

Justin Timberlake? Amy Adams wearing cowboy boots? And so continues Clint Eastwood's slide into directorial irrelevance...

Please, Clint: Quit while you're ahead.

Justin Timberlake has surprised me once or twice with his perfs. And Amy can play foul-mouthed bar girl all the way to nun. Cowboy boots shouldnt derail her.

Also. Clint will never 'slide into directorial irrelevance". He simply wont, "Snidely".

Actually, for me Eastwood ended a magnificent streak of high points when he peaked with the brilliant Gran Torino. His three subsequent films have gone from mediocre to bad.

The reason he is not (at least) officially directing this I'm told includes his belief he has a better chance of winning best actor (which he strongly desires) both if the focus is not on him in the directing category and that he can concentrate more on his performance not being the hands-on director. His long time producing partner (and co-Oscar winner) Robert Lorenz is making his directorial debut with this. My guess is Eastwood will be someone in control at least.

"Peaches" might want to explain why directors like the Coen Bros (who cast Timberlake as the lead opposite Carey Mulligan in their new film), David Fincher, Jim Sheridan (Daniel Day-Lewis' favorite director), Richard Kelly (of Donny Darko fame) all have sought him out. Why are they wrong and you right?

Throw in Alpha Dogs as another fine performance.

^I agree, Timberlake has definitely proven himself, giving very strong performances in 'The Social Network' and 'Alpha Dogs' especially. And he's so effortlessly charming when it comes to comedy such as his Emmy winning stints as a host on 'SNL' and his turn opposite Mila Kunis in 'Friends With Benefits'.

When will people get over the false assumption that Justin Timberlake is a bad actor? He was great in much of what I've seen him in. Just because most once-great pop singers can't make the acting transition doesn't mean they all can't.

From the looks of it, Eastwood is targeting an acting Oscar. After all he already has Oscars for producing and directing, why not expand it? I thought Gran Torino would do the trick for him especially after his surprise Million Dollar Baby inclusion. I somewhat agree though that Gran Torino was still his last good work as a director.

Adams is on a roll, and it's a huge possibility that she'll be an Oscar winner before the decade ends. This might do the trick for her in a very open and wide Best Actress race, since I think Anne Hathaway has Supp Actress sewn up. She's also likely to get nommed for The Master, and that'll make her a five time nominee already.

And as for Timberlake, I think that has been settled already, but come on, the guy has chops.

OH PLEASE. Justin Timberlake should stick to lame rom-coms opposite whatever starlet is du jour.

But I was wrong to assume that Eastwood is directing this. His appearance is one of those "favor to a friend." Well, favors to friends do not earn acting Oscars.

Sorry, but give me "Dirty Harry" anyday, over this.

Robert Lorenz is a friend of Eastwood, he produced all the Eastwood's movies of 00's and was the first assistant director of many of them.

But I still think that the movie has potential for itself, and even more for Eastwood and Adams, she certainly can be a double-nominee this year.
