It is no secret that Lee Daniels' film "The Butler" is going to have an amazing cast Forest Whitaker is playing the lead role of Eugene Allen, a butler who served 8 presidents of the USA Robin Williams and Melissa Leo are playing the Eisenhowers James Marsden and Minka Kelly are the Kennedys Liev Schreiber is Lyndon B. Johnson John Cusack is the infamous Richard Nixon Alan Rickman and Jane Fonda are the Reagens This sounds like real Oscar bait IMO. I think it could definately be nominated for Best Picture. I wouldn't be surprised if Forest Whitaker wins Best Actor again. Supporting nominations could go to any of these men, but if the overdue factor is played, then Rickman and Cusack will get in What do you guys think? ![]() |

This movie has OSCAR written all over his face. More specifically, as Boomer once said: it "has Chrismas Oscar season written all over it." |

Oprah Winfrey will play Whitaker's Wife, David Oyelowo is playing their son. Nelsan Ellis ("True Blood") has signed on to play Martin Luther King, Jr. Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz and Yaya DaCosta also round out the cast. If the film turns out to be good, according to those who have read the screenplay this film could defnitely be a contender an Oscar contender especially for Whitaker and Oyelowo. |

Lee Daniels has yet to show he can be even a competent director, so I don't expect be any good. |

I'm glad Yaya DaCosta is getting more work. She has a lot of potential. She was good in 'The Kids Are All Right' and was the best thing about the film 'In Time'. And Nelsan Ellis as MLK Jr.?! That's awesome. |

Tye I so agree with you. With the right roles Yaya DaCosta could become big. And it doesn't hurt that she's drop-dead gorgeous.

I see that Daniels has cast Lenny Kravitz in the film. Since he's the very best thing in "Precious" I'd love to see him wow again here. I also really like Terrence Howard's acting chops. Fingers crossed for both of them, esp Lenny. The Sunne in Splendour; I prefer my Roses White |

Agreed. She's just the right role away from breaking out, building up her resume with ensemble performances here and there. Did you see her in 'The Messenger'? Her scene with Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster is a heartbreaker. It's one of the moments of that film that really stuck with me. |

No I didn't see The Messenger. But I didn't know she was in it. I really want to check it out now. I would like to see her work with bigger directors. Tarantino for example. Maybe Kerry Washington's role in Django could have been her breakthrough. Well, but it's good that she's getting more work now, and might draw some attention to herself.

Daniels is a very over the top director. This can either go right on the Oscar-bait parking lot or be a complete camp mess! Personally, I am hoping a bit for the latter. Maybe Forest Whitacker can throw a television at Robin Williams, or Jane Fonda can pee in Alan Rickman's face. Those are the type of moments I want to see!

Except it almost certainly is too late for this year (Clint Eastwood is about the only director who can shoot a film in the summer and have it ready by December), and I can't imagine them waiting until Xmas 2013. I can see this having a spring/summer release, wide, hoping to follow in the wake of "The Help." The film as of now has no US distributor in any case.
