The Emmys always save at least four of the spots for Emmy regulars and 2 for people that sort of deserve it. Yet, they always look over people who are more deserving for a win than all of the nominees. Some names that come to mind are Lauren Graham, Courtney Cox, Joel McHale, Eva Longoria, and Nick Offerman.

I've always had a feeling Joel McHale will take over a late night talk show or get his own. For sure, he'll host SNL and maybe garner a nom that way. Maybe host the Oscars and getting a nom that way? It'll happen... Good mentions on... - Courteney Cox - Lauren Graham - Katey Sagal Courtney has had Supporting roles (Friends), Guest roles (Scrubs) and Lead roles (Cougar Town) and she just can't get in. I don't know what Emmy has against her. Sagal has had two sitcoms where she was the Lead (Married with Children; 8 Simple Rules); an incredible dramatic Guest arc (Lost); and one of the best Leading dramatic roles in the history of television (Sons of Anarchy). Again, I don't know what Emmy has against her. Although her husband's Twitter rants probably haven't helped. Graham is an interesting case. She's just happened to be on two shows that aren't even on Emmy's radar. With Gilmore Girls, she was on an actual network that's not on Emmy's radar. And with Parenthood, she nor anyone else can get in. Some of those family-driven ensembles can - thirtysomething; Brothers & Sisters - and some can't - Parenthood. But unlike Cox and Sagal, I haven't given up yet. As for Longoria, hang tight. Only season 1 of Desperate Housewives was on Emmy's radar and I'm sure had there been six nominees back then, she would have got the last spot. She was fresh off of a soap opera and a couple of failed pilots and DH has been her only major television role. I'm not even close to writing her off. |

Busy Phillips is long overdue. Laurie Keller is a comedic goldmine and she has yet to be fairly compensated. I also think it's sort of a crime that Calistia Flockhart has yet to win an Emmy. She really should have been nominated at least once for Brothers & Sisters. I realize the show itself was hardly on Emmy's radar aside from the perennial nods for Sally Field and Rachel Griffiths. I would love to think that Flockhart was at least popular enough to have placed in the top 10 potential nominees, but who knows. I doubt at this point that Marcia Cross or Teri Hatcher will ever see the Emmy podium in their lifetime. They were beyond lucky to get their Housewives role and I don't see them getting another big role again. I also think it's sad that Sarah Chalke has never gotten an Emmy nomination in her career. Parenthood got a random guest nom for Jason Ritter this year. If he can get in, when there was no buzz for him, then Graham might have a very slim shot. As for Sagal, it's more a problem with SoA than her. The voters just don't like it and, like you said, Sutter shooting his mouth off every year come Emmy time certainly doesn't do Sagal any favors. As for Lost, her impact was really felt in Season 6, but I don't think she was submitted, and she had to compete against Allison Janney and Elizabeth Mitchell, the latter of whom finally got a deserved series-achievement nom. Considering Sagal's body of work, she, like Ed O'Neill, will get nominated eventually, maybe even in Voiceover Performance for Futurama. But it won't be for SoA, sadly. I would love to ask an Emmy voter why they vote the way they do. Also, I would like to ask if they vote for any of the people mentioned above when it comes to the first round of voting. |

I doubt Kyra Sedgwick will ever see the Emmy podium as well. She was lucky to get alot of success on The Closer, and she wasn't even a remotely big star before that, and probably wont be after it. Also the fact that Mary McDonnell has not won an Emmy, and only been nominated once, is also a shame. |

That is a very odd nomination, and I believe has nothing to do with Parenthood. Him being the son of John Ritter might have been a factor here, and I wouldn't count out bribery as well. Lauren Graham probably won't ever recieve a nod, sadly. If Alexis Bledel had gotten a nod this year for Mad Men, I would have felt so incredibly bad for Graham. First Sookie then Rory.... luckily this didn't happen. I might add Chloe Sevigny. After never recieving a nod for Big Love, and this year for SUV, I doubt that any of her Mini-series projects will get her a nomination especially not now with combined acting categories. Maybe if Lizzie Borden turns out to be her Temple Grandin. Nick Offerman might get a nomination ala Will Arnett for AD. I could see that happening once Parks ends or gets cancelled.

John Noble certainly carries a sense of weight that would justify an Emmy nom, yet he couldn't get in for Fringe even when there was that Facebook campaign for him, last year. I suppose he could get a commendation for a guest role or for work in a Miniseries one day, but not for this.

I feel like I'm the only one who's happy about the Jason Ritter nomination. It's a strange choice only because it's not the typical baity performance that gets in. Bribery–really? This isn't the Golden Globes... |

John Krasinski was the first name that popped into my head. Some other actors that I think missed their opportunity: Peri Gilpin (no nominations for Frasier) Patrick Warburton (no nominations for Seinfeld, won't get nom'd for Rules of Engagement) Dennis Haysbert (should have been nominated for 24, and couldn't get nominated for The Unit) |

The odd thing is that Ritter had all his scenes with Graham in that episode where he only reacted to what she did and yet they did not notice her and singled him out. I´m glad Parenthood got at least some nod, though. I watched some Gilmore girls today, Graham was wonderful in it. |
