Which previous Academy Award winners could win another Oscar in the future if they are given the right role. And what type of character would they win again for? Please note that Daniel Day-Lewis is not eligible as he is going to win for Lincoln next year anyway

Jack Nicholson is the main for me because he hasn't done a film since 2010, and I hope he gets cast in Osage County as Meryl's Husband |

My pick is that Dustin Hoffman (who turned 75 today) could win another one, although it will have to be in Supporting as I doubt he will get another chance to win the voters over in a lead role. I think he either needs to play a real character or star in a gritty drama movie directed by Martin Scorsese.

I was actually going to make a thread about her in particular, but Charlize Theron. She is one of the most underrated actresses out there right now (I think she was robbed of a nomination for Young Adult). I know she's doing this whole action/sequel/commercial route right now, but I'd really love to see her get a dramatic role and knock it out of the park (a la Swank in Million Dollar Baby). She has so much potential and I really wish she would do more heavy stuff because she's great at it. |

I think both Cate Blanchett and Tom Hanks have been off the Oscar radar for a while (though the latter just got 2 BP nominees back to back). Cate is coming back to work in full force in 2013 with 2 terrence malick movies, one woody allen flick, the second hobbit movie, and a movie called "Carol" where she plays a lesbian. I think she has the best chance with the latter movie, for obvious reasons. That is, unless Woody Allen gives her one of those great roles... she could be nominated next year. As for Tom Hanks, he has Cloud Atlas this year which I have great hopes for. It will be a love-it/hate-it movie a la tree of life. And the 5% rule will help this movie a lot in the Best Picture race. But I don't see acting noms coming out of it. Then he has 2 movies in the works. One about a hostage crisis in somalia, and in the other he plays Walt Disney. I smell a faint scent of oscar coming from the latter... I have no hopes for Al Pacino, or Robert De Niro. They have completely gone off the tracks. If anything they are making too many movies. Jack Nicholson and Dustin hoffman are destinct possibilities. but they need a great director. I would love to witness their fourth and third oscar wins, respectively. |

#4 (of course these two are literally the only ones alive to have a 4th chance.) Jack Nicholson (will get a rousing welcome-back trophy if he does some good work) Meryl Streep #3 Daniel Day Lewis Sean Penn Tom Hanks (although it seems he was a better chance of winning by being the producer of BP) #2 Cate Blanchett (she deserves to win a Lead) Kathy Bates, Diane Keaton, Morgan Freeman (in a great supporting role) Al Pacino (he's been doing good TV movies, and it's only time that translated back to the screen) |

I've often wondered if Faye Dunaway has another great performance in her. What a run she had from 1967-1976, then everything just went off the rails. But I see she's been cast as Maria Callas in Master Class (pre-production)--it's hard to see her as Callas, but if ever there were an actor's piece...

I've read the book on which the movie is going to be based on. if adapted well it is really a great material for Blanchett. although in the book there are two main character Carol and Theressa. I think I've read that Wasikowska is going to play second lead. So while it might give Blanchet another nomination, it is also possible Blanchett and Wasiakowska who plays Theressa could split the votes |

Marion Cotillard will easily score Oscar #2 if one of the following happens: 1. A big director other than Christopher Nolan recognizes her immense talent (in my opinion, she is the 4th greatest working actress today) and casts her in a baity role. Woody Allen recognized her but couldn't get her than second nomination. 2. Anna Karenina bombs and Quvenzhane Wallis doesn't garner enough buzz for Beasts of the Southern Wild, allowing her to win for Rust and Bone.

It's really difficult to predict this things. At one point, who would have said that Hilary Swank will instantly win a Oscar number 2. But I'm just gonna go with some names. Actors: Tom Hanks Dustin Hoffman Javier Bardem Ben Kingsley Philip Seymour Hoffman Actress: Cate Blanchett Meryl Streep Nicole Kidman Marcia Gay Harden Frances McDormand |

Tom Hanks seems poised for a 3rd at some point if he gets back to more weighty material. Rachel Weisz is giving too many fantastic performances post-Oscar NOT to be back at some point. I'd love to see Marisa Tomei get another and she's come close a few times. |
