![]() I haven't seen "The Village" before, but today I finally had the chance to watch it on DVD. The movie itself is pretty medicore (43% on RT) but I was surprised how much I liked Dallas Howard in it. She was very convincing as a young blind girl who lives for the love. Her performance was heartbreaking (especially in that sciene where she realizes that her future husband has been almost killed) and very brave. I'll say it out loud: she was Oscar-worthy in my point of view. Am I alone with this? I mean was she even on the contender list as Best Supporting Actress in 2004? Did she have a chance at all? What do you think about her performance? Discuss.

She was a Lead. People raved about her but HATED the film, which clearly hurt her chances. |

She had the most screentime but I wouldn't call her lead. ![]() Yeah, it's not an Oscar movie :(

Bryce Dallas Howard is the best work that her father ever did. I would have nominated her this year for 'The Help', probably the only supporting player of the movie that I really thought that was strong, alongside with Tyson. |

Have you checked out "Lady in the Water" Another Shyamalan film....she's pretty good in that one imo, as are a couple of her costars. Speaking of M Knight, he's got a film hopefully out next year called "After Earth", which has Stephen Gaghan writing. This should help. Unlike many, I'm not a Shyamalan detractor. Yes, I enjoyed "The Happening" AND "The Last Airbender". I'm not a huge fan of "Unbreakable", but then, how many were? Haha. The Sunne in Splendour; I prefer my Roses White |

I think I'm the only person in the world who didn't hate this movie. I think it's actually really good! I saw the "twist" coming a mile away, but, for what it was, I enjoyed it a lot. And I thought Bryce was terrific. |

No im right there with you. I also really liked it. The big "twist" at the end wasn't problematic for me. I thought Bryce was amazing. She unfortunately went unrecognized because everyone hated the film so much. She was indeed nomination worthy.

I'm with you, guys! The problem is the movie was 'sold' in a wrong way. But I found really good. |

I hope none of you will think less of me for what I am about to tell you, but I actually liked THE VILLAGE too. I wouldn't rate it as high as THE SIXTH SENSE, but it's not nearly as bad as its initial reception would have you believe. I thought it was a clever metaphor for the insularity and distrust of the post-9/11 Bush years. Miss Howard was excellent in the film. |

I haven't seen The Village, but I've loved her work in The Help and 50/50, but on her iMDB page, she has no projects lined up! I know she just gave birth in January, but I really want her back on the big screen. |

I have a recommendation by Pook (thanks for it, my friend) for a Dallas Howard movie. What else? Can you recommend me some of her movies which are worth to watch? I have seen her in "The Help"; "50/50"; "Hereafter"; "The Village". And yes. She's pretty underrated, not as Viola Davis who had two fine roles (not even good) in her entire life and she's a two-time Oscar nominee.,,Blah.

Please keep in mind that I didnt say I think Lady in the Water is a good film, just some of the perfs. She hasnt been in that many films. Thinking it over, your best bet might be Hereafter, Her perf is divisive, but I was fine with it. You may really enjoy Cecil De France in that. Some people say she stank in Terminator Salvation. Personally I'm neutral on that one. Then there's Spiderman 3... Her filmography isnt that long and I think it's worth it to catch up on as many of her films as you have time for.
