So since the tapes were switched Zooey Deschanel's DVD had "Control" on it. I don't remember if she had anything good on it, but does anyone think it might better her chances since she got "two tapes"?

Get it Goldderby! Quick question. Are those categories null and void and they start from scratch in the voting again? If so, another question but not to be answer lol, how many voters will watch the tapes again and switch? Things to ponder, but good thing that "Control" is back in action b/c that is a winner. |

The TV academy gave me DVDs of all the top categories except lead comedy actress -- they had run out of copies of those -- so I didn't see that "Control" was submitted for Zooey. The ATAS officials figured out that part of the problem when they investigated the issue with Max's episode.

This is going to shake up the category a bit now that they're revoting. Other factors are going to come into play such as... - They will have now seen two episodes of Zooey Deschanel plus she will be the focus of attention since it was her reel that was wrongly submitted. Will this push her to a win? - It was announced Amy Poehler and Will Arnett are splitting today. Will this garner sympathy votes for Poehler and push her to a win? - How many rethought their votes and now get a second chance to undo their mistakes (if they feel like they made a mistake)? It would be FASCINATING to know the results from 1-6 the first time around and now the second time around. Great job, Tom and Gold Derby!

Tonight I saw many of the ATAS chiefs at an official Emmy party and I thought they'd be FURIOUS at me for breaking this story, but, in fact, they all shook my hand and said it was a great thing for Gold Derby and they are happy that we caught this issue now -- in time to fix it. Sweet!

Probably because they realize just how bad this situation could have been. It's still a bit controversial, considering Deschanel and Greenfield are essentially getting two tapes for the price of one, and if either of them wins, there's sure to be some talk about how this pushed them over the finish line. But had the awards actually been given out and then this mistake was realized, it would have been catastrophic for the ATAS. Those two particular awards would have been tainted for whomever won them. It's still not a clean situation, but it's much much better than the shitshow that the ATAS would have had on their hands if this had been discovered after the ceremony. |

Nice work, Tom! And as soon as I saw this news I also thought about the Poehler sympathy vote factor now, not to mention anything else in the news, like this week's Democratic National Convention making politics more central, that has or could still focus voters' attention on issues other than the tapes before September 17th. |

Great job everyone! And my two thoughts have already been mentioned: The timing of the revoting with the announcement of Amy Poehler's split for Will Arnett makes the vote more likely to benefit her than Deschanel. When voters watch Bad in Bed, there'll be a, "Oh, that's more like it" feeling, and she'll probably be ranked higher than she was with Control, but I still don't think she wins. I don't recall Control doing much for her. But now Amy has sympathy on her side in addition to everything she already had going for her. Max Greenfield, on the other hand, I think gets a huge boost from this. My biggest complaint with Control is that it's now effective as a showcase because there's no contrast to what Schmidt is usually like. But this mixup gives him exactly that. Now voters saw typical Schmidt, and they'll see Control and be able to appreciate the performance much more fully. It will still be hard getting past the Modern Family barrage of episodes, but his odds are strongly improved, IMO. RE-HIRE CHRISTIE CLARK! |

That's a great catch for the GD crew. I thought something weird was going on there. I don't think that "Control" or "Bad in Bed" are winning submissions for Greenfield, but this "two for one" deal is interesting. That would benefit Deschanel more than Greenfield I'd guess. I wonder how dilligent these panelists will be to "re-do" their ballot choices. Are they like Oscar voters where they fill out their ballots early in the eligibility window and then out of sight, out of mind, or are they last-minute voters where something like this could make a significant difference in the outcome? It might be all for nothing and this won't change their minds any. It's more something for us to latch onto in the waning days before the ceremony. Nice catch all the same though.
