Don't understand the sudden hoopla. Based on the trailer, this film strikes me as a very pleasant, well acted experience that will be watched once, applauded and then forgotten a year from now. If "Best Film" for Oscar is to go to ones with a chance to become classics, Oscar has been missing the boat for years and this is just one more movie that looks as if it could join the forgettable. |

It's "Playbook" not "Notebook". And I don't agree. I doubt this movie will be even close to "forgettable."

THANK YOU!!!! I realize the cast is pretty good i guess but i do not understand the appeal....????? People are predicting Jennifer Lawrence to get nominated and win the oscar. If this movie wins an oscar for best actress then this is a crappy year for movies. |

First of all, we haven't even watched the movie. So you're critiquing it based on 150 seconds. Jennifer Lawrence is on track to becoming the next big thing. She has yet to disappoint. If she win it will a great thing for everyone.

Well everyone else is critiquing it..... why can't i? And if she wins it will be a great thing for everyone??? Thats a really weird think to say. |

Okay, sure you can critique it. I mean, everyone can. But to say the film is "forgettable" and that if Lawrence wins it will be a "crappy year for movies" based on 150 seconds seems like a pretty weird thinking process to me.

I never said the movie will be forgettable. All i'm trying to say is that it looks like a good movie for a golden globe nomination but not the oscar.... And i know that everyone will hate me for this, but i don't really see anything SPECTACULAR about jennifer lawrence. I'm not saying she's a bad actress but i am saying that she is overrated. |

Yeah, I'm sorry I quoted the unforgettable thing, since you actually didn't say that. But, I guess will have to wait till it comes out, watch it and then critique it. And saying JL is overrated is crazyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd rather see Maggie Smith get nominated for Quartet than JL. |

Sorry for the brain burp. Yes the critique is based on the trailer, but the idea of a trailer is that they show you why you should be excited about the film. My main objection was to the sudden overwhelming surge of rush to the top for a film that just doesn't come across as all that memorable. Jacki Weaver is one of my favorite actresses and I always expect a magnificent performance from her, but I don't see "rewatch forever" anywhere in this movie as yet even though I will go to see it on the big screen rather than waiting for the DVD. |

a) Change the title, it's embarassing... b) You should never judge a movie by its trailer. I don't go to 99% of genre films (read: action movies, thrillers, fantastic, romantic comedies, romance movies) simply because I know that I won't like 60% of them. That's very close-minded of me and I'm aware of that. There are some amazing action movies out there. Tony Scott's Crimson Tide and Christopher Nolan's Inception come to mind. But what's funny about it is that those movies' directors are both auteurs. They have a vision. And I'm not an auteurist by any stretch of imagination (I prefer writer/directors and I mostly register with the theory that the screenwriter is the author, but I don't see that as underrating the role of the director). But I digress. You should never judge a movie by its trailer especially in 2012! Silver Linings Playbook and Hope Springs both had horrible trailers that made them look like bland romantic comedies. I've seen the latter and it is very good. The earlier has gotten an amazing response. The trailers this year are just badly made. I loved the Lincoln trailer but it was horribly cut. Fade in/Fade out, Fade in/Fade Out. When I look at a trailer I examine the images that are shown to me. Politicians talking and DDL seems to have nailed Lincoln. That's what I got from it. But of course if you just watched it once, you would have hated it, like I did the 1st time I saw it. |

Well, Playbook won the Audience award at TIFF, so I take it seriously. Considering past winners of People's Choice, which includes TKS, Slumdog, Chariots of Fire, Precious, Places in the Heart, Shine, The Fisher King, and many others which features an acting win or BP/BD and other major wins with Oscar, it compels me to take a closer look.
