1) Sunrise (the only masterpiece to ever win best picture) 2) How Green Was My Valley (great film, but about Ford's 20th best film) 3) Casablanca (just about perfect film) 4) Unforgiven 5) The Godfather 6) Lawrence of Arabia 7) Titanic 8) The French Connection 9) It Happened One Night 10) Rebecca (about Hitchcock's 30th most interesting film) A handful of others are decent, most are, always have been, always will be middlebrow mediocrities, including probably this year

1. All ABout Eve 2. Annie Hall 3. The Silence of the Lambs 4. Casablanca 5. No Country For Old Men 6. On the Waterfront 7. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 8. Sunrise 9. The Deer Hunter 10. The Apartment ...Last 4 spots can come and go. Top 6 is pretty solid. I can say there is one thing about ON THE WATERFRONT that I don't like, Bernstein's score. Other than that it's a perfect film. |

Well here's an interesting distraction. Thanks awardskel. Hmmm....looking over the winners, I find that I hate most of them. Or, not a huge fan. So, I'll go with my emotional choices. All Quiet on the Western Front On the Waterfront The Lord of the Rings, RK The Last Emperor Dances with Wolves: these are my friends. Sue me. And do it now. Forrest Gump Titanic The King's Speech: Immense gratitude Annie Hall Lawrence of Arabia Wow is that ten? I'd trade off The Apartment, The Godfather, and The Deer Hunter for most of the above. Sunrise's cinematography and overall craft is a remarkable feat, but I hate that misogynistic screenplay and it will never make any top ten list of mine. Whoa. So glad I copied this before I hit "Post Reply". The Sunne in Splendour; I prefer my Roses White |

I could more easily come up with 10 "worst" BP winners than 10 "best" BP winners.
