Maybe she wins there, but no way she is "definitely" winning - that's pure fanboy fantasy, as is the presentation of the idea that she is 100% absolutely-no-contrary-opinions-allowed statement. This is a solid performance IMO (will express in more detail later), but I have no problem saying that for me Michelle Williams, Tilda Swinton and Kirsten Dunst for me were more impressive. But I'd never say that any of that is 100% fact - it is just my opinion.
The reason I mention a recent win affecting her chances is because in reality that does affect these things. Not saying it is right or wrong - it just is a factor, and to ignore it because it bothers someone shouldn't have any impact

I agree with you that Tilda was impressive and Kirsten was rather good, but Michelle Williams' performance was nothing but a caricature. BTW, I'm not a Streep fanboy. I pride myself as a Hepburn fanboy. Even though Streep will assume the title of greatest actress ever from Hepburn, I'll always have more respect for Hepburn. The best album of the year so far. "Past Gone" is the best song of the year as well. Check out Mike Stud's debut album on iTunes. |

You do know that Hepburn strongly disapproved of Streep's acting, don't you? It of course is fine to admire both, as I do - I don't agree with much of what Hepburn said about her (although some of what she said does ring true).

What did Hepburn say about her? |

Something along the lines that you could always see the wheels turning (that is, she wasn't natural, but very theatrical/stagelike) - I'll look up the link Bette Davis on the other hand went out of her way to praise her.

The source is her biographer, A. Scott Berg (who is a terrific writer, done a bunch of bios on famous folks) - she said that when she saw her on screen, she went "click-click-click - I see the wheels turning in her head." She wasn't a fan of Glenn Close either, but very much liked John Travolta, Melanie Griffith and Julia Roberts.

Hepburn, in general, wasn't a very pleasurable woman. She was very high on her horse, but that is because she owned a very big horse. She new she was great and at some times she abused that respect. But she is still deserving that respect. The best album of the year so far. "Past Gone" is the best song of the year as well. Check out Mike Stud's debut album on iTunes. |

Essentially, she was narcissistic. The best album of the year so far. "Past Gone" is the best song of the year as well. Check out Mike Stud's debut album on iTunes. |

I'm not aware of Hepburn being a narcissist. In that same biography Tom is talking about, and in her own - Me - she talked about feeling as though she had good and lesser performances (she talked about how she never won for her best performances; she considers Long Day's Journey Into Night to be her greatest performance (which, for me, is among the top performances I've ever seen, so I'd agree with her).
That alone would disqualify her from being a narcissist (which, to be clear, means 'excessive love or admiration of oneself'). We are such stuff that dreams are made on, and our lives are rounded by a little sleep. |

Streep just called Katharine Hepburn one of her screen idols tonight.

Went to see TTSS at a SAG screening with a member who has his ear to the ground - has seen Williams, Davis, Streep, doesn't think he'll vote for any of them (a big Swinton fan, but hasn't seen Kevin yet) - anyway, he's been a good source over the years - he tells me that between what he has heard from people who have seen all the nominees as well as pre-disposition, he thinks it will come down to either Streep or Close winning - he says he's heard nothing but good reaction to Close, and solid for Streep as well.

...and this is why I think the Oscar race is going to come down to Davis and Williams.
Close and Streep are both fighting for that veteran/overdue vote.

in my opinon 3 greatest actresses of all time STREEP DAVIS BANCROFT. Hepburn ranks for me about 6...so her opinion of Streep never impressed me..but Davis loved her and the TCM tribute by Streep for Bette davis is wonderful...so praise coming from Bette Davis , for me, validated everything i feel for Streep.
I think Viola Davis will win SAG, Streep the Golden Globe in Drama..Williams the GG in Musical/Comedy and the oscar who knows?? |

Ha I love how Streep has taken over a 3rd thread already. Goes to show who the real queen of show business is. |
