This was a solid opening premiere, with many great moments - good songs from Radiohead, and Alec Baldwin was on fire as host (he proved why he's one of SNL's greatest hosts); Steve Martin also delivered, stealing the monologue from Alec and Seth Rogen
See you next week for Melissa McCarthy and Lady Antebellum!
Not bad at all. Some pretty good sketches, and not one god-awful sketch. This is slightly above the minimum we should've expected from Baldwin as a host. IMO, the strongest was "Who's on top?". Hilarious.
Looking forward to Emmy winner McCarthy next week.
I thought this was a pretty lackluster episode. The perfect example of how this episode went was the debate cold open. A lot of the performers gave it their all (Kenan Thompson and Bobby Moynihan were great as Cain and Gingrich respectively while Kristen Wiig was scarily realistic as Michelle Bachman), but the writing didn't help them at all. The same problem as always (Seth Meyers really needs to step down as head writer). The only skits that completely worked for me were the monologue, Baldwin's Tony Bennett impersonation and "Who's on Top".
The Baldwin episode was pretty great. No sketches flopped and there were a few quite good ones (Tony Bennett, Red Flag, Who's On Top, Top Gun). Even the 11 minute opening was pretty great. All those impressions will be classics as the election runs on.
Not terrible excited for Stiller, Faris does a good job but I'm not thrilled there either. McCarthy will be fun next week though!
