I noticed that if Lady Gaga gets nominated for Album of the Year for Born This Way, it will be her third consecutive year nominated for the top prize at the Grammys. I was curious to see how frequently this has occured in Grammy history, and the answer is very seldom. Only the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, and Barbra Streisand have completed this rare feat. Sinatra was the first to have three consecutive nominations, in 1959, 1960, and 1961 (although in 1959 he had two nominations for Album of the Year). Sinatra was also the only artist to have two separate strings of Album of the Year nominations three years in a row, as he was also nominated in 1966, 1967, and 1968. Barbra Streisand became the second artist to get three nominations in a row, and even scored a fourth consecutive nomination, in 1964, 1965, 1966, and 1967. The Beatles are the only band to have at least three consecutive nominations in the category, but not only that, they had an unprecedented FIVE consecutive nominations, in 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, and 1970. |

Almost. Kanye West was nominated in 2005 for The College Dropout, 2006 for Late Registration, and 2008 for Graduation. No nomination in 2007. |
