Me too.  I’m confused how I can go 100% accuracy and still finish outside the top 400 …

There must be something somewhere on the site to explain.  I’m not a gambler and never understood how to read odds, and I don’t understand how to use the big bets whatsoever.  I assumed using the bigger bets on cats that seemed like a sure thing would result in big points…but it doesn’t.

I do know that bigger bets get you more points when it’s not a sure thing. You get rewarded more for calling the long shots, if a contender has really high odds of winning then you’re not going to win as many points.

But what about the Critic Choice Awards? All the winners were more or less expected, so even if you bet BIG you don’t win much back. I scored 91% (only missed 2 categories) and still ranked 78th place (out of 938). I don’t get it.

Hey Jason, I looked at your Critics Choice predictions and the others who scored highest. I think though the favourites won, that there is still a lot of areas where users can get more points by being strategic and placing their 200 or 500 bets on categories they are confident about but where the odds are more favourable. I saw that you chose Cate Blanchett and placed the 500 big bet on her for odds of 1/10 (betting 10 to win 1), which got you 50 points. I think the users who had higher points than you used their 500 big bet on other areas like Lupita Nyongo winning or Her winning screenplay which were both close to 19/10 (betting 10 to win 19), so their big bets of 500 scored them almost 1000 points as opposed to your 50. I think they were all favourites but that Cate Blanchett was just a huge, huge favourite and those odds were not favourable for someone trying to use their 500 big bet most stategically. So I think you would have been one of the best predictors of those awards if you placed your bets on categories that you were confident in but perhaps not as confident as you were of Blanchett winning. So basically the odds reflect who everyone thinks will win and they impact your score a lot.
