I joined this thread along with my good friend who goes by Actriz about a month ago. For a while I’ve been laying low, mostly in the elimination games while occasionally responding to a topic or two, but a major project I have been working on is now over and I have more free time, so I’m looking forward to responding to more topics and making more friends on this board!
A little about myself, I’m a small town girl, born to an actress and a magazine editor. I have two siblings, and all three of us have gone on to purse acting careers. I’ve studied multiple different forms and methods of acting at two different universities (as a transfer student) and I have developed my taste in film, drama as well as actors and actresses based on these teachings and educations. I like to think of myself as exceptionally smart on the subject, so hopefully my input on certain performances and films can be of value to some of you here. Recent cirumstances in my life have prevented me from extending my acting career beyond regional theater, though on the bright side I did recently win a regional theater award for a production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? that I was a part of.
I think this website is great – and I can’t way to be a part of it.
P.S. As you may have inferred from my username, I am a bit of a Meryl Streep fangirl. However, I do realize that she isn’t perfect and that she has given some pretty down performances (primarily looking at Doubt and Hope Springs here). I just feel that the good on her resume outweighs the bad. Other actresses I have a tendancy to fangirl over are Julianne Moore (the best part about any film, even the bad ones, that she appears in), Cate Blanchett (I’ve never seen her in a bad movie), Glenn Close (I went through a phase in my teenage years where her character in Fatal Attraction was my role model. It was a dark time), Judi Dench and Kate Winslet (two women whose ability to characterize and convey emotion makes me seethe with jealousy) and especially Charlize Theron, who I think has the “greatest actor of her generation” title all sewed up.
I’m looking forward to some great discussions and debates on this board!June 20, 2013 at 7:56 pm #458358
Welcome aboard, you’ll meet lots of Meryl Streep fans at goldderby.June 21, 2013 at 2:39 am #458359
And you will also meet plenty of people who adore Meryl Streep
that are NOT fanboys or fangirls…just appreciative of her monumnetal
talent..And you will encounter a couple of people who will rake her
over the coals as well…which of course, is perfectly acceptable here..
Good luck and welcome!!!June 21, 2013 at 7:15 pm #458360
Glad to have you! It’s been great having you in the Elimination games, and I look forward to hearing more of your input in the forums.
