Huh. I’m curious. Do we have get to see the compilation of ratings for our comments? Are they used to suggest future friends for us?

I kinda don’t like. I mean what’s the point of rating individual thread posts? I mean, seriously?

I don’t know. But I’m afraid I had to rate your post a rather low score. 😉

This functionality isn’t quite finished yet. Pls be patient. It WILL be done in the next 24 hours or so.

We want all posts rated because we want to be able to create a chart of the highest-ranked posts. It’ll be interesting to see what we get when we do that.

Also, HERE COMES THE SCARY PART — YOU are going to be rated based upon the total score of your posts. You don’t see it yet, but we’re working on it. Soon you will see stars under your photo in the left column that will refect the average score your posts receive.

Hmmm … I wonder: Do you think this new ratings system will create more positive interaction in the forums? Or will it encourage people to be flashy (thus maybe obnoxious) in order to get top ratings?

I suggest that instead of the five-star system, we employ a “like” or “vote up” system, much like Facebook, Twitter and Google+.  This way, we can still recognize great post(er)s without fostering an environment of negativity or one that is subject to vote-spamming.

I just dont know. Some of us dont need much promptig to become more obnoxious. But I do know that I’ve been having fun with this star system, making sure I give a “one” star to the poster(s) who truly bug me the most (even if I have to unblock them to do it).

    LOL!!

    Kidding, kidding…..kinda.

I wholeheartedly agree with this suggestion!  A.V. Club allows members to up-vote or down-vote each individual comment and shows the total number of each. This allows everyone to see how popular or unpopular a comment is without making people arbitrarily giving it a one-to-five ranking.

I’ve already seen some abuse of the system, too.  Every post on the “The Good Wife Season 6″ thread has one star, which clearly means someone who dislikes the show went into the thread with the sole purpose of giving every post the lowest score possible. I think this is a clear misuse of the system.

Thank you for implementing this, though, once all of the kinks are worked out it should be a great enhancement of the forums!

Well, I just tried out those stars on a few posts. It says I “already voted”. Lol. Nope. O well. Also I notice that there are other errors in this star system, where if I click on one which already has a rating, it says 1 vote when there’s clearly been more.

This is just one more technical difficulty and struggle I have. And it’s not that I havent figured it out. It just happens, and nothing I’ve done to mitigate this (over a decade) has made much difference.

I still find this star system interesting however, even if I cant play with any accuracy.
