The Oscars forum is now called “Movies”, the Grammys forum is now “Music”, the Tonys and Daytime Emmys forums are the same and the Emmys forum has been split into “TV” and “Which TV Episodes Should Emmy Contenders Submit?”

I like it, because it separates it out better. I noticed that the forum icon is now called ‘You Talk’, which is interesting too.

Do we need those old Daytime Emmy forums?

Since Gold Derby is now expanding into predicting reality TV, we’re moving beyond our focus on awards. But we’ll never leave that, of course. We need to open up our thinking, our forums, too. I want to create more categories and redefine old ones. Do you have ideas for more forum sections? i’m open to adding them.

Basically this came about because Chris Beachum was saying how bad it is that really interesting forum thread topics move off the home pages of, say, our Emmy and Oscar forums too fast and people don’t see them. So we want to create more areas for people to post, therefore we lesson that problem.

Since we’re in the spirit for new ideas, who else has more?

    Sports

We missed the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics, but March Madness is just around the corner (Selection Sunday is the 16th!). It’s very popular and something I’ve enjoyed playing for years.

You would need to add a bracket to the predictions center. Pools and other sites (Yahoo!, ESPN, CBS Sports) use different rules for points. I like when you get rewarded for more points when you correctly pick an upset (ex: 12-16 seed to win in the first round). It’s something goldderby members would probably enjoy (picking upsets and getting rewarded for it instead of just picking the favorites everywhere).

So, you could have the following:

    1st round points (32 games)
    predicted a 1-4 seed to win — 1 point
    predicted a 5-10 seed to win — 2 points
    predicted a 11-16 seed to win — 4 points

    2nd round points (16 games)
    predicted a 1-4 seed to win — 2 point
    predicted a 5-10 seed to win — 4 points
    predicted a 11-16 seed to win — 8 points

    Sweet Sixteen (8 games)
4 points for predicting one of the winners plus add the number of their seed to the point total (ex. # 1 seed would give you 5 points)

    Elight Eight (4 games)
8 points for predicting one of the winners plus add the number of their seed to the point total (ex. # 1 seed would give you 9 points)

    Final Four (2 games)
16 points for predicting one of the winners plus add the number of their seed to the point total (ex. # 1 seed would give you 17 points)

    Finals (1 game)
    predicted winner — 32 points

Here’s an example of a bracket:

Maybe the “TV” section should be retitled “Television” because it kind of gets lost in:

Welcome: Make Your Predictions! Give Us Feedback!,  Movies,  TV,  Which Episodes Should Emmy Contenders Submit?,  Reality TV Shows,  Music,  Daytime Emmys,  Tony Awards,  General Discussion: All Non-Award Topics,  Games! Games! Let’s Play Games!,  Polls! Polls! Polls!,  Report SPAM Here,  Daytime Emmys Judging 2012,  Daytime Emmys Judging – 2011

Or if not, maybe some of the forums should be renamed.  “Tony Awards” could be “Tonys”, “Polls! “Polls! Polls!” could be “Polls” and “Games! Games! Let’s Play Games!” could be “Games”.

I would also suggest moving all of the threads (there are only thirty-two) in the “Daytime Emmys Judging” forums into the “Daytime Emmys” forum.

i would rename TV as “Primetime TV” and renamed “Daytime Emmys” as “Daytime TV”. that way they won’t get lost and it’s more clear…

The new structure is terrible, but the previous one was terrible as well. I don’t understand why some things are so restricted in Goldderby Forums. For example, the polls with only 10 options. The format, another thing. I guess Golddbery Webmasters should learn from great forums like AwardsWatch and stuff like that. Visually, they’re impeccable.

You need to be more specific. What’s so terrible? Other than your complaint about polls only have 10 options, you don’t mention anything else. Pls gimme your bitches … I want to hear it. But be more specific, pls

For example the design, the size of letters, the need of a sub-forums (For example: Awards > Oscars > Other Awards), a whole section about Predictions and Specific Categories, not just a bunch of opened threads…

    1. News
    2. Awards Predictions
    3. Critics and Reviews
    4. Polls and Lists
