An HBO series about a crowd-pleasing TV newsman who has a public outburst and has his news program taken over by an ambitious producer from his romantic past. Stars Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, and Sam Waterston. This is the first year eligible at the Globes.


A Showtime series about a CIA officer risking her career and reputation against a former prisoner-of-war Marine. Stars Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, and Mandy Patinkin. The show has received one Globe win in one nomination in this category.

Downton Abbey

A PBS series set in England after the start of World War I focusing on the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants. Stars Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, and Maggie Smith. The show has one Globe win as a miniseries, but this is the first year eligible in this category.

Breaking Bad

An AMC series about a high school chemistry teacher diagnosed with terminal cancer who turns to manufacturing crystal meth to earn money for his family. Stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. The show has no Globe nominations in this category.

Boardwalk Empire

An HBO series focusing on gangsters, politicians, and bootleggers in Prohibition era Atlantic City. Stars Steve Buscemi and Kelly Macdonald. The show has one Globe win in two nominations in this category.
