whiskywinehouse replied to the topic Who will be snubbed from the 2018 Grammy Award Nominations? in the forum Music 8 hours, 8 minutes ago
I somehow think that Migos/Quavo, Logic and Post Malone will be completely shut out of the Grammys. And besides Kesha, I can’t see Katy Perry getting nominated for anything.
I think DJ Khaled will get almost-snubbed, maybe he’ll get 1 or 2 noms at most.

I’m so excited for Alessia Cara! Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise for her not to get in last year. She’s in a much stronger position this time. I can see her winning!
whiskywinehouse replied to the topic Is the Ed Sheeran sweep really as undeniable as people say? in the forum Music 2 days, 9 hours ago
I don’t think he’ll sweep. His track record so far has been 2 Wins/11 Noms – which means that he is generally well-liked, but not a Grammy darling.
Predictions on likelihood of winning (most likely to least likely):
- Best Pop Vocal Album – Extremely weak category overall. The only real threat here is Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic (that’s assuming that…
To a Grammy voter who may be reading this:
We would appreciate it if you could leak the submissions from the artists named below. Thank you in advance!
- Ed Sheeran
- Bruno Mars
- Kendrick Lamar
- The Weeknd
- DJ Khaled
- Luis Fonsi
- Lady GaGa
- Taylor Swift
- Alessia Cara
- Childish Gambino
And on a side note, many posters (including me) hope that you embrace your true identity as a listener who favours Lady Gaga over other musicians. There is nothing shameful about that and it does not debase your credibility bcos everyone here has their own preferences. People who claim to be totally objective are really the ones who are the…[Read more]
I agree with your analysis on why Urban music may be less supported in the General Field. But I totally disagree with your opinion that urban music is “immature” and should change to be more “acceptable”.
As you rightly pointed out with Beck, there are good albums that are able to earn the support of listeners who don’t typicaly listen to the…[Read more]

I think that “Million Reasons” would have done a lot better if Lady Gaga’s label didn’t make the dumb decision to release “Perfect Illusion” as the first single instead. She did perform “Million Reasons” at a couple of awards show and Carpool Karaoke to promote it but somehow those didn’t push the song to the top of the charts. Perhaps “Perfect…[Read more]
This is extremely true. As an urban music supporter, I have been let down too many times that I have already completely lost my hope of Grammy voters recognising urban material in the General Field categories.
I think Bruno Mars has a fair chance of beating Ed Sheeran. He will be able to pull support from both pop and R&B categories. And his…[Read more]
Yes I’m afraid of that outcome. Ed Sheeran doesn’t deserve all these awards for the material this time (I thought he deserved to win for “Thinking Out Loud” and “Multiply” back then).
I’m really hoping for Bruno Mars to upset Ed Sheeran in all the categories that he is nominated in. But I don’t know if that is too unrealistic. 🙁
Yea it baffles me too, but some posters here were slamming Humble (according to them, the lyrics lack “depth” or “substance”?). I totally agree that Kendrick is a good lyricist. But my point is that we also need to look at Kendrick’s music and how his songs always have the catchiest melodies and sickest beats. (Ok I should change my post to use…[Read more]
And to those who keep harping on “lyrics” and just lyrics in evaluating whether a song should be nominated in SOTY, the last I checked the Grammys is NOT a poetry-writing awards show. So stop watching the Grammys and go lock yourself up and read ur Shakespeare instead of coming here to diss Kendrick’s music!
According to the 54th Grammy Awards description guide, the award is given to the songwriter(s) of a song that “must contain melody and lyrics and must be either a new song or a song first achieving prominence during the eligibility year. Songs containing prominent samples or interpolations are not eligible“.
Why are some posters assuming that…[Read more]
Best R&B Performance/Song is gonna be a really tough fight with “Redbone” and “Location”. I think Bruno Mars has a better chance in Best Pop Solo (and I hope he wins at least this category).
Do you think it may be possible for Bruno Mars to submit “That’s What I Like” to Pop Solo and “Versace On The Floor” to R&B Performance/Song? Or would…[Read more]
Haha you and circa 1993 are like sworn enemies or sth.
I think songwriting isn’t the only measure of an artist. It takes skills to really perform a song and turn it into a record. Everything Rihanna touches turns into gold bcos she has this X-Factor and unique voice. You could dump Rihanna songs to people like Zara Larsson or Bebe Rexha and…[Read more]
Ok point taken. I personally would have much preferred Beyonce submitting “Halo” over “Single Ladies” in SOTY.
But anyway I’m just trying to say that we should not overly penalise “feel-good” songs for having less complex lyrics compared to ballads and serious songs with messages. And lyrics are not the only measure of a well-written song. This…[Read more]
Some posters above are really uttering rubbish. There are different songs for different occasions (songs for you to get hyped, to exercise to, to cry to, etc.). Y’all are adopting an overly restrictive conception of “well-written lyrics”, that favours only ballads or those serious songs with political messages, etc.
Of course for songs with…[Read more]
Now I kinda wished Lemonade and Anti were competing in the same year as 1989 (and not 25). Beyonce and Rihanna would have thrashed the hell out of Taylor Swift.
You can talk about Adele winning AOTY twice, but pls don’t mention Taylor Swift’s 2 AOTY wins. Taylor’s wins were pretty disgraceful and particularly hated by a majority of the p…[Read more]
