On Monday, James Franco fought back when he thought Bruce Vlianch was being dismissive of his hosting of the Oscars. Turns out the veteran comedy writer was trying to make a joke that backfired. As he explained in a heartfelt e-mail to Franco, "I was trying to defend you. Believe me, I would never diss you. that's not my style. you should never take the gutter press too seriously."

So impressed was Franco with the sentiments expressed by Vilanch, that he posted the email to his Twitter feed, after adding his own artwork.
