This year's BAFTA Awards nominees for the best of British television include three of the PBS entries into the Emmys race -- "Any Human Heart," "Downton Abbey" and "Sherlock" -- as well as the HBO telefilm "The Special Relationship."  All of these programs will contend in the catch-all Movie/Miniseries race at the Emmys but are in different categories at the BAFTAs.

"Downton Abbey" and "Sherlock" vie for Best Drama Series against reigning champ "Misfits" and "Being Human." "Any Human Heart" is up for Best Miniseries along with "Mad Dogs," The Promise" and "The Sinking of the Laconia." And "The Special Relationship" is a Best TV Movie nominee against "Eric and Ernie," "I Am a Slave" and "The Road to Coronation Street."

Unlike the Emmys, there are only four acting awards with nominees drawn from series, miniseries and TV movies. This year's slate includes several performers who could also compete at the Emmys including Best Actor bids by Jim Broadbent ("Any Human Heart") and Benedict Cumberbatch ("Sherlock"). The Supporting Actor nominees include Brendan Coyle ("Downton Abbey") and Martin Freeman ("Sherlock") while Gillian Anderson ("Any Human Heart") is among the Supporting Actress contenders.

The Best Comedy Series candidates are: "Mrs Brown's Boys," "Rev," "Peep Show" and "The Trip" while the Best Continuing Drama contenders are "Casualty," "Coronation Street," "Eastenders" and "Waterloo Road." And vying for the International prize are "Boardwalk Empire," "Glee," the Danish version of "The Killing" and "Mad Men."

Graham Norton, who will host the May 22 kudos, earned his first bid since 2002 as his self-titled talker competes for Best Entertainment Programme against "The X Factor," "Have I Got News For You" and "The Cube."
