Early 2014 GRAMMY Awards Discussion

Just months before she died on July 23, Amy Winehouse recorded her final song -- a duet with Tony Bennett on the jazz standard "Body and Soul." Their joint effort is being issued as a single to benefit a foundation began in the late singer's name by her father. It will also feature on "Duets II," Bennett's follow-up to his 2006 Grammy-winning disc, which will be released Sept. 20.
"Body and Soul" was penned in 1930 for Gertrude Lawrence with music by Johnny Green and lyrics by Edward Heyman, Robert Sour and Frank Eyton. Since then it has been sung by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Billie Holliday. Bennett and Winehouse recorded together at London's famed Abbey Road studios in March. Their combined effort is well worth a listen below.
It could sound like gold to Grammy voters who have rewarded both Bennett and Winehouse over the years. Bennett has won 15 Grammy Awards, beginning with Record of the Year in 1962 for his signature tune "I Left My Heart in San Francisco." His most recent awards came in 2006 for "Duets," which won both Traditional Pop Vocal Album and Pop Collaboration with Vocals for the track "For Once in My Life" sung with Stevie Wonder.
In 2007, Winehouse reigned as queen of the Grammys, winning five of her six bids: Best New Artist, Best Pop Album ("Back to Black") and Record, Song and Female Pop Vocal for the single "Rehab." She lost the Album of the Year race to Herbie Hancock's disc "River: The Joni Letters." Visa troubles kept Winehouse from attending those Grammys and she accepted her award for Record of the Year, which was bestowed by Bennett and Natalie Cole, via satellite from London.
Following her death, Bennett said, “Amy Winehouse was an artist of immense proportions and I am deeply saddened to learn of her tragic passing. She was an extraordinary musician with a rare intuition as a vocalist and I am truly devastated that her exceptional talent has come to such an early end. She was a lovely and intelligent person and when we recorded together she gave a soulful and extraordinary performance. I was honored to have the opportunity to sing with her. It had been my sincere hope that she would be able to overcome the issues she was battling and I send my deepest sympathy to her father Mitchell, her entire family and all of those who loved her."
