Gold Derby's Oscarologists are divided over the race for Best Actor, but Leonardo DiCaprio has the lead. He plays J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood's upcoming film "J. Edgar" and gets impressive 6/5 odds to win. It would be the actor's fourth nomination; he previously received a Best Supporting Actor bid at age nineteen for "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" (1993) and a pair of Best Actor nods for "The Aviator" (2004) and "Blood Diamond" (2006).

Six out of eight Gold Derby Editors put him out front: Chris Beachum, Marcus Dixon, Daniel Montgomery, Andrew Pickett, David Schnelwar, and Adam Waldowski. In the minority are Rob Licuria, who expects Gary Oldman to win for "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," and Matt Noble, who is predicting Ryan Gosling for "The Ides of March."

But the Oscar Experts disagree. Currently, ten out of sixteen are calling the race in favor of George Clooney ("The Descendants"), who has 14/5 odds. Six years ago he won Best Suporting Actor for "Syriana" under similar circumstances: that year he also wrote and directed another film in the Oscar race, "Good Night, and Good Luck," and this year he also helms another Oscar contender, "The Ides of March." Since his first victory he has received Best Actor bids for "Michael Clayton" (2007) and "Up in the Air" (2009), but he has yet to be awarded as a leading man.

The Experts forecasting a Clooney victory are Pete Hammond (Deadline Hollywood), Dave Karger (Entertainment Weekly), Keith Simanton (IMDB), Sasha Stone (Awards Daily), Anne Thompson (Thompson on Hollywood), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone), Chuck Walton (Fandango), Susan Wloszczyna (USA Today), and Gold Derby's own Tom O'Neil and Paul Sheehan.

Of the remaining six, two are picking DiCaprio -- Michael Musto (Village Voice) and Steve Pond (The Odds, The Wrap) -- two are picking Brad Pitt for "Moneyball" -- Scott Feinberg (Hollywood Reporter) and Jeff Wells (Hollywood Elsewhere) -- while S.T. VanAirsdale (Movieline) is predicting Michael Fassbender ("Shame") and Guy Lodge (In Contention) is going with Jean Dujardin ("The Artist").

Gold Derby Users agree with the Editors. Almost half of them believe DiCaprio will win, followed distantly by Clooney, Oldman, and Pitt.
