Adele and Lady Gaga lead the American Music Awards nominations: "While nobody can ever really recall who won awards seconds after they are handed out, the AMAs always provide a tremendous TV broadcast, full of performances from artists plugging high-profile fall albums. In the past few years, they have really upped the ante on the on-stage components of the show, which have made it a can’t-miss for pop music enthusiasts. Of course, they’re still going to hand out awards too, and the usual suspects dominate the list of nominations, which just came out today: Adele, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift lead the nominations, with Rihanna, Lil Wayne, and Beyonce all picking up multiple noms themselves." Visual Effects Society honors Douglas Trumbull: "The work of Douglas Trumbull on the legacy of visual effects in film is unmistakable, going all the way back to his work on '2001: A Space Odyssey' ... This year Trumbull's work is on full display in Terrence Malick's 'The Tree of Life,' which features a 20-odd minute analog effects sequence depicting the beginnings of the universe ... The organization has tapped Trumbull as the recipient of this year's Georges Méliès Award, which honors individuals who have 'pioneered a significant and lasting contribution to the art and/or science of the visual effects industry by way of artistry, innovation and groundbreaking work,' according to the press release." Oscar-winners Michael Douglas, Steven Soderbergh, and Matt Damon team up for Liberace biopic on HBO: "HBO Films has greenlighted for production 'Behind The Candelabra,' which will be directed by Soderbergh. It takes a behind-the-scenes look at the tempestuous relationship between legendary entertainer Liberace, played by Michel Douglas, and Scott Thorson, his younger limo driver and live-in lover, played by Matt Damon. The actors had been attached to the project when it was a feature, which also had Richard LaGravenese writing and Jerry Weintraub producing ... Paramount to distribute Oscar screeners online: "Paramount Pictures announced today that it has teamed with Deluxe Entertainment Services Group to provide 'For Your Consideration' online screeners for the 2011-2012 awards season, making it the first major studio to stream its awards films online. The studio will present its awards contenders, including 'Rango,' 'Super 8' and 'Like Crazy,' and potentially additional titles later this season, via Deluxe’s proprietary platform. The Visual Effects Society (VES) will be the first recipient of the online screeners, receiving them as early as October 14th." AWARDS DAILY

Oscar overseers plan on creating a film museum: "Academy Awards overseers have the expertise and memorabilia. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has the know-how to run a world-class exhibition space. So the two outfits have hooked up to create what they hope will be the finest museum in the world devoted to moviemaking. While there is no definite timeline, organizers said they hope the film museum - housed in a landmark department store building that is now part of the museum of art’s campus along Wilshire Boulevard - could open in three to five years."
