Oscar experts clash predicting top acting races

All 30 Oscarologists polled by Gold Derby believe "The Artist" will win Best Picture and they predict Christopher Plummer ("Beginnings") and Octavia Spencer ("The Help") for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, but they clash over the lead acting races.

Most experts foresee a Best Actor victory by recent SAG champ Jean Dujardin ("The Artist"), but quite a few opt for George Clooney instead: Matt Atchity (Rotten Tomatoes), JD Cargill (CNN), Ed Douglas (Comingsoon), Bradley Jacobs (Us Weekly), Dave Karger (Entertainment Weekly), Kevin Lewin (WENN), Michael Musto (Village Voice), Kevin Polowy (Next Movie), Richard Rushfield (Daily Beast), Keith Simanton (IMDB), Anne Thompson (Thompson on Hollywood/ Indiewire) and Dave White (Movies.com).

An overwhelming majority back Viola Davis ("The Help") for Best Actress, but there are a few notable dessenters picking Meryl Streep ("The Iron Lady"), including Tariq Khan (Fox News), Kevin Lewin (WENN), Richard Rushfield (Daily Beast), Kevin Polowy (Next Movie) – and me.
