"Once," based on the Oscar-winning film, debuts on Broadway: "Critics on Monday called the intimate musical a 'gem of a show,' 'a knockout,' 'gorgeously crafted' and 'the sweetest and most romantic show on Broadway' with talk already buzzing about a world musical tour and likely Tony Award nominations. '"Once" uses song and dance in a way I've never experienced in an American musical,' said The New York Times, complementing its soulful songs about the power of music and connection and performances by the musical's charming main stars, Steve Kazee and Cristin Milioti, as well as the supporting cast." The Directors Guild Awards will be one week earlier in 2013. From their press release: "... the 65th Annual DGA Awards will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2013 in the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles. The decision to move the date by one week was made during the process of securing the venue. The DGA's Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film has traditionally served as an accurate barometer for the Academy Award for Best Director. Only six times since the DGA Award's inception in 1948 has the winner not gone on to receive the Academy Award for Best Director."
Woody Allen moves from "Paris" to "Rome": "Having hit paydirt less than a year ago with 'Midnight in Paris' -- which, in case you've forgotten, became the highest-grossing film of Woody Allen's career and nabbed him a fourth Oscar to boot -- Sony Pictures Classics is clearly keen to woo the same audience that fell for the film's romantic European charms to his next effort. Originally dubbed 'Nero Fiddled,' Allen's latest has been granted a new title that couldn't sound much more cannily focus-grouped if it tried: 'To Rome with Love.'" IN CONTENTION
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio reunite for "The Wolf of Wall Street": "The film is based on the Jordan Belfort memoir of his days as a hard partying, drug addicted stockbroker who was indicted in 1998 for security fraud and money laundering and served a 22-month federal prison stretch. Shooting will begin August in New York. The film will be fully financed by Red Granite Pictures, which acquired 'The Wolf Of Wall Street' at the last Cannes Film Festival after Danny Dimbort, Christian Mercuri and Joe Gatta formed the international sales company."
