Can Skillrex repeat Grammys success at MTV VMAs?

This year MTV revamped the Best Dance Video category and renamed it Best Electronic Dance Music Video, mainly focusing on EDM music. This is no longer a category for Top 40 artists who dance in their music videos.

Skrillex won three Grammys in 2011. His video for “First of the Year (Equinox)” contended for Best Music Video (Short Form) at the Grammys but did not win. At the VMAs, it also contends for Best Visual Effects.

Calvin Harris is nominated for “Feel So Close.” He collaborated with Rihanna on “We Found Love" which contends for Video of the Year, Best Female Video and Best Pop Video. Calvin will be house DJ during the VMA telecast. Expect him to also appear during Rihanna’s performance.

Martin Solveig, who was house DJ at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, is nominated for “#This Night Out#.” 

Avicii’s “Le7els” is nominated for Best Choreography while Duck Sauce’s “Big Bad Wolf” is nominated for Best Direction.
