Let's predict the Golden Globe TV races - Our predictions center is ready

Golden Globe voters love to be the first to reward new television shows and performers. Look back at choices like "Desperate Housewives," "Nip/Tuck," "Party of Five," "The Shield," and even recent winners like "Homeland," "Boardwalk Empire" and "Glee" to see the pattern.

What rookies will be honored at the next Globe ceremony? Make your predictions in all 11 TV races here. Review the overviews of each category and the handicapping for every contender. Then pick five nominees for each award. The nominations will be revealed on Dec. 13.

For dramas, keep an eye on "The Newsroom" and its stars Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, and Sam Waterston, "Nashville" with Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere, "Revolution" with Elizabeth Mitchell and Giancarlo Esposito, and "Smash" starring Debra Messing, Katharine McPhee, and Anjelica Huston.

But don't underestimate repeat success by "Homeland" with Globe and Emmy champ Claire Danes and recent Emmy winner Damian Lewis, last year's Globe winner Kelsey Grammer ("Boss"), the return of "Mad Men" and Jon Hamm after a one-year absence, and the switchover from the miniseries category by "Downton Abbey" with Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, and Maggie Smith.

On the comedy side, there will be at least one guaranteed new winner because reigning champ Laura Dern ("Enlightened") is ineligible due to no new episodes. New shows making a run could be "Girls" with Lena Dunham, "House of Lies" with Don Cheadle, "The Mindy Project" starring Mindy Kaling, "The New Normal" with Justin Bartha, Andrew Rannells, and Ellen Barkin, and "Veep" starring recent Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

While "Modern Family" has three Emmy trophies as Best Comedy Series, it only has one from Globe voters and has never picked up an acting award (only Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara have even been nodded). Matt LeBlanc ("Episodes") will also be back to defend his title, and "30 Rock," Tina Fey, and Alec Baldwin have one final chance to contend.

Among the contenders from TV movies and miniseries, expect to see bids by Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Ed Harris from "Game Change." Globe and SAG winner Jessica Lange and "American Horror Story: Asylum" make the move over to this group of categories. Also look for "Hatfields and McCoys" with Emmy winners Kevin Costner and Tom Berenger plus Bill Paxton, "Hemingway and Gellhorn" with Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman, and "Sherlock" with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

Newer telefilms hoping to make an awards debut are "Coma" with Lauren Ambrose and Geena Davis, "The Girl" with Toby Jones and Sienna Miller, "Political Animals" with Sigourney Weaver and Ellen Burstyn, "Steel Magnolias" starring Queen Latifah and Phylicia Rashad, and the next installments of "The Hour" with Dominic West and Romola Garai, "Upstairs, Downstairs" starring Ed Stoppard and Keeley Hawes, and "Wallander" with Kenneth Branagh.
